Eh, it works

Given what it does, it's probably overpriced. I wasn't aware this did not have a power switch - you have to plug/unplug to turn it on/off. Looking online they sell an optional power switch for $20. Used it on 4x5 black and white negatives. I don't really have anything to compare it to, but can't imagine the much cheaper options out there would not have sufficed.

This is bright!

I've copied two b&w 4x5 negatives so far and am pleased with the results. I used a 5D with EF50mm f/2.5 compact macro lens; ISO100, f/8 @ 1/60sec using the camera's auto exposure. Aligning the camera was a bit fiddly since I used a tripod (I don't have a copy stand). I want to come up with something easier to set up without buying a copy stand. I hope to be able to make something I can clamp on a table top and use a macro focusing rail to mount the camera on.

As compared to the previous 4x5 Light Source Basic this light is drastically brighter. EV rating is 15.1. Luz is difficult to calculate based on distance and other variables, but measuring this light with the same methods as other film scanning lights, lux is 17,000.

What's the difference between this (with 97 CRI) and the other (with 99 CRI) which costs twice as much? Impact on performance?
Asked by: Robert
The higher the CRI the less likely the color of the light will shift while it is on, the more consistent the color of the light will be. Having said that, a CRI of 97 is already very high quality in the Negative Supply 4x5 Light Source Basic MK2 (97 CRI).

With this set up what is the way to deal with Slides? Both 35mm and 120?
Asked by: Michael
When using the Negative Supply 4x5 Light Source Basic MK2 (97 CRI), B&H # NE45BL97M2, if you want to capture slides, you would use it with the Negative Supply Basic 35mm Mounted Slide Scanning Kit, B&H # NEBSLIDEMK2K.
