Tenba Skyline 3 V2 Reviews

Assessent for Sony RX100 VII Carry

I received the Tenba Skyline V2 (3) with the Sony RX100 VII I just bought from B&H Photo. I requested it specifically, hoping for the smallest case possible that I could wear on my belt. The quality and looks of the case are excellent, as is the smooth zipper operation and solid vecro belt loop. It offers a perfect balance between compactness and adequate padding. The concern for everyone, like me I expect, is the fit. The inside height, width, and depth of this case fits the camera nicely, being perfectly snug but not tight. There's an adequate gap left for the small provided hand strap, though none for a battery. Know too that my assessment is without the optional grip (which I find unnecessary since I hold the camera with my left hand cradling the top and bottom). So, is this a keeper for someone wanting the perfect small case for the compact Sony? That depends on how you feel about wear and tear on your camera finish. Like most cases I find, it has the zipper on the inside (towards the body) instead of the outside. That means the big open flap can't bend over easily to allow ingress and egress of the camera. Thus, the camera scrapes the zipper every time going in and out, no matter how carefully you to try to avoid it. I don't know how much a nylon zipper will scratch the aluminum paint on a camera, but I'd expect a thousand scrapes would show it's effect. And right now, I have a desire to keep a $1400 camera looking new. If zipper scratching doesn't concern you and you want a minimal case that's not too tight for the Sony, I'd recommend this Tenba case. Otherwise, I've found the equally great fit and quality Lowepro Adventura CS-10 sharing the same opening/zipper problem, despite it having the zipper better located near the outside edge. Perhaps the minimal small size mandates a mouth opening / zipper scraping problem, but I have yet to try the Lowepro Apex 20, which looks less trim and sharp but may have a wider mouth opening. It's too bad no one ever designed a proper case sized correctly for the Sony RX100 series that would function and protect as effectively as the horizontal belt carry Lowepro Santiago series. I've used one of those for 9 years with my small Canon S-120 and found it to be the best design ever, despite it's marginal zipper All replacements now though are too big and/or too shallow in depth. Meanwhile, I've determined that this case will fit and serve well protecting my mini-binoculars.

Asked by: Jeff
The Tenba Skyline V2 Pouch 3 should be able to accommodate a standard press credential and an extra set of AA batteries, especially if you utilize the mesh pockets for the batteries.
