Midland MXT275 Overview

Ideal for cars, boats, camping trips, and home enthusiasts, the MXT275J Jeep-Branded MicroMobile Two-Way Radio from Midland is a 15W GMRS radio system complete with a fully integrated control microphone. Compact and designed with limited space in mind, this system is easy to stash away under dashboards.

The MXT275J sports 15 GMRS channels, eight repeater channels, 142 privacy codes, and 10 NOAA weather report channels with autoscan and alert functions to keep you informed on local weather conditions. Hi and Lo power settings can be selected for different usage scenarios, and the system has a maximum range of 50 miles in ideal, obstruction-free conditions. Along with the RJ45 mic input, you also get an optional 3.5mm external speaker output and a convenient USB-C charging port for keeping your devices topped off with ultrafast charging times. Like all MicroMobile products, this radio system is fully compatible with all Midland FRS and GMRS handheld walkie talkies. The MXT275J includes a hideaway radio mount, a detachable antenna, a magnetic antenna mount, a microphone holder, a 12 VDC power cord, and a car adapter for the power plug.

External Speaker
The MXT275J provides a rear-panel jack for connection of an optional external speaker (purchased separately). When selecting an external speaker, ensure the speaker has 8-ohm impedance and is rated for 4W. Note that when an external speaker is connected, the radio's internal speaker is automatically disabled.
Utility Functions
Keypad Lock
You can use the keypad lock function to prevent accidentally changing your radio’s settings. When the function is enabled, the current radio settings are locked in place.
Monitor Mode
Monitor mode lets you check for activity on the current active channel. You can also use Monitor mode to adjust the volume of your radio when not receiving a signal.
NOAA Weather Radio and Scan
Your MXT275J has a NOAA Weather Radio function, to enable the user to receive weather reports from designated NOAA stations. Your radio also has a NOAA Weather Scan function, to enable the user to scan all 10 channels for the NOAA National Weather Service.
Privacy Codes
Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System (CTCSS) and Digitally Coded Squelch (DCS) are systems that allow several users to share the same channel without disturbing each other. When CTCSS or DCS is enabled for a selected channel, the channel is muted to all incoming signals unless they carry the correct CTCSS or DCS tone.

When a transmission with the correct tone is received, the mute is removed and the voice audio can be heard. When the transmission ends the channel is muted again. Transmissions that do not have the correct tone are not heard.

Silent Operation
The MXT275J has a Silent Operation mode. In this mode, all beeps and tones are disabled.
Repeater Channels
The MXT275J has the ability to access repeater channels. The use of a repeater can significantly increase a radio’s range and coverage area. Prior to using a repeater you must coordinate with the owner of the repeater to gain permission to use the repeater.

We wanted a small radio that didn't take up much space and this one was absolutely perfect. The coax cable for the antenna was very easy to route because it's a smaller diameter. Total installation was very fast and easy. We have a jeep and the Jeep logo was fitting. I'm thinking about getting one for my truck.

I looked at other brands and read the reviews and hands down midland was the one that fit my needs and function for what I was using it for. Not to mention it had the Jeep mic as well .

The specs indicate GMRS channels are 1-7 and 15-22. What are the uses for channels 8-14 and are there any channels beyond 22?
Asked by: Joe
Channels 8-14 on the Midland MicroMobile MXT275 15-Channel Two-Way GMRS Radio are only allowed up to 0.5 watts of power by the FCC. Since the MXT275 is not capable of transmitting at such a low power, these channels have been removed from the radio. The FRS/GMRS frequency range has a standard 22 channels.
