Austrian Audio MiCreator Studio USB-C Microphone

Very solid, great sounding, NOT “just a USB mic”!

I have heard good things about Austrian Audio’s other microphones (most are professional grade, higher-end mics made in Austria), so I picked up this mic/interface in hopes that I would not be disappointed, and I am glad I did! First of all, the build quality is first-rate…very substantial and obviously made to last. The actual microphone mount swivels for different positioning, and again, the build quality is fantastic. I can’t imagine having any problems with it even after moving/adjusting the position hundreds of times, plus, there is an adjustment screw to tighten or loosen if need be. It's also “plug and play”, which made it super easy to set up. I just plugged in the USB C connector into my computer, the mic lit up red to let me know it was connected and then it lit up green once it was ready to go. Even though it’s not a true large diaphragm mic (it’s probably a ¾ inch diaphragm by the looks of it), the sound quality is excellent. I tried it on speech, vocals, and I even used both the mic and the line level input to record an acoustic guitar with an active ¼” output. When you plug into the in/out, the MiCreator sends the ¼” signal to the USB 2 output, but it keeps the mic on the USB 1 output, so you can use BOTH in your DAW. Very cool! Yes, it includes a special cable that goes from ¼” to 1/8th inch and allows you to plug in any line-level source. You can also use the extra input for the satellite mic. Since it’s the same exact microphone without the interface, you can use it for stereo recording, or if you are doing interviews, you can use one for you, and one for your guest. They also offer a lavalier mic. I don’t do a lot of recording to my phone, but I decided to hook it up to see how it worked. The MiCreator powered right up (using USB-C on an Android phone), but at first, the audio wasn’t showing up on the video. After a quick Google search, I found the right settings and I was able to replace the sub-par audio on my phone’s microphone with the great sounding audio from the Austrian Audio mic, so I could see this as a great interview/vlogging/content creator microphone as well. Are there any negatives? You’d have to dig pretty deep to find something to complain about as they seem to have thought about pretty much everything and have included cables and adaptors for just about any situation. They don’t include a USB-C to USB-A adaptor, but if you need that, those are readily available. The removable plates are kind of cool. I don’t think I would bother with them personally, but someone else might like this feature. All in all, very pleased with the purchase and as always, great pre-purchase support from the people who work the phones at B&H.
