Oyen Digital 2C Overview

The Mobius 2C 32TB 2-Bay USB 3.2 Gen 2 RAID Array from Oyen Digital features two 3.5" drive bays that each sport a Toshiba 16TB 7200 rpm Enterprise hard drive to provide a total capacity of 32TB. Compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux, the drives are formatted as exFAT and the array features a 10 Gb/s USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port for host connectivity as well as a second 10 Gb/s USB-C hub port with 15W of power for connecting or daisy-chaining additional peripherals.

Built with a hardware RAID controller, the Mobius 2C may be configured as RAID 0, which stripes the drives together to optimize performance, or RAID 1, which simultaneously writes data to both drives for 1:1 redundancy. Also available are JBOD, which is the default configuration and lets each drive be independently utilized as well as SPAN, which creates one large non-RAID merged drive. An integrated fan helps keep things cool and included is a USB-C to USB-C cable, a USB-C to USB-A cable, a power cord, and a key.

Please note that while the main USB-C port is compatible with Thunderbolt 3 and 4, performance will be reflective of 10 Gb/s USB 3.2 Gen 2. Also, the hub port is only USB compatible and will not support Thunderbolt devices.

Features
  • 10 Gb/s USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (USB 3.2 Gen 1/USB 3.0) interface that is compatible with Thunderbolt 3 and 4
  • 32TB (2 x 16TB) capacity with 7200 rpm drives
  • Includes USB-C hub for daisy-chaining or connecting additional USB devices and is not Thunderbolt compatible
  • LED indicators help monitor the operational status and drive health/activity
  • Aluminum housing and quiet fan provide excellent heat dissipation
  • Backed by a limited 3-year repair/replace warranty and free lifetime technical support

Oyen Digital 2C Reviews

Noisy

Based on reviews and specs on the B&H web site, I was hoping this would be a solid quite hard drive. I found the unit to be very noisy compared to other 40TB hard drives I have. The specs stated "Noise Level 27 dBA" but when I turned it on I got 45+ dBA. Tech support at the company said the 27 dBA was the noise level the fan manufacturer gave them. I asked why I was getting 45+ dBA and he said that is the way it is. I had no data to the drive so it was just all fan noise far in excess of my other 40TB drives. I returned it to B&H.

Great Hardware

I'm using this thing in RAID 1, paired with a basic Backblaze cloud backup. It's been a rock solid archive setup so far. These Oyen Digital enclosures are my new go to. They seem to be reliable and well-made, but also economically priced.

The manufacturer has not specified what brand of HDD comes preinstalled in the Oyen Digital Mobius 2C 40TB 2-Bay USB 3.2 Gen 2 RAID Array (2 x 20TB HDDs). They only specify that it is an enterprise grade NAS HDD rated at 7200RPM.
