Is the sliding plate on this tripod compatible with the regular Miller Air head?
No the Miller AIRV (VERSA) plate is not compatible with the Miller AIR head. However you could add the following Manfrotto Quick Release adapter to the plate of the AIR HEAD. The MA557 once attached to the Miller AIR Plate will accept Miller Versa plates from the AIRV head.

Can the 75mm ball base be removed to convert to a flat base?
The Miller AIRV Fluid Head with Pan Handle has a ball that cannot be removed. However, the 3/8 stud on the ball can be removed, allowing the head to mount on any 3/8 flat base.
