ToP-ART Design
Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology, or ToP-ART, is Yamaha's design concept that combines both internal circuitry and physical features to maintain audio integrity and give you the clearest, high-resolution entertainment possible. Circuitry, such as the ESS SABRE ES9080Q 384 kHz 32-bit DAC and the dedicated crystal clock, for an accurate USB DAC with DSD 11.2 MHz native and PCM 384 kHz playback. Physical attributes include a resin Art Base chassis and anti-resonance feet for vibration absorption.
YPAO R.S.C.
Yamaha's YPAO R.S.C. (Reflected Sound Control) is a sound field correction technology that uses precision 192 kHz, 64-bit EQ adjustments to automatically optimize sound based on the material of your room's walls and the placement of your speakers. The result is lifelike and accurate music with proper placement of the artist and instruments, making you feel as if you're in the room with them.
Pure Direct Mode
This mode is designed to virtually eliminate signal degradation by having music signals bypass the buffer amp, and tone / loudness / balance controls, taking the shortest route possible to your speakers.
Wireless Streaming
MusicCast can use either the Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet connection to conveniently stream audio from popular online services, such as Spotify, Amazon Music, Pandora, TIDAL, SiriusXM, and more. It also gives you direct access to your local network's library of digital music files. Additionally, you can stream directly from an Android or iOS mobile device with Bluetooth and AirPlay support.
Additional Features
  • 100W per channel output at 8 ohms
  • Thick ground wires with screw helps eliminate energy loss and signal degradation
  • Rear USB-B port for playback from a laptop or external storage device
  • Stream audio to other MusicCast devices for whole-home audio
  • Front headphone port
  • Built-in AM/FM radio

MusicCast Is Icing On The Cake

Bought R-N800a to replace a 1993 Marantz SR63, which I loved. The upgrade to WiFi and Bluetooth is a plus. This unit has more than enough power to drive my old Polk Audio 8 ohm tower speakers in A, and in B channel, a Bose Acoustimass system that requires an amp to power it. That was specifically bought to improve TV sound. Most reviews about this unit are pretty accurate. The bass without a sub woofer is on the light side, but the high end is brilliant. The sub of the Bose system really helps. And the knobs are chintzy. But I barely touch them. Between the remote and MusicCast on my phone there is no need. Overall, I like it and if you can get it in the $900 range, I recommend.

What is the difference between the 600 and the 800, other than the increased power output?
Asked by: Richard
Along with the increase in wattage, the Yamaha R-N800A 2.1-Channel Network A/V Receiver (Silver) also would feature an upgraded DAC chip, higher grade power supply, and additional DSP tools to optimize acoustics in the room.
