Miller DS-20 overview

  • 1Description

The DS-20 tripod system consists of the DS-20 fluid head, designed to bring "Big Head" performance and professional features like Dynamic Fluid Drag control and an integrated Static Counterbalancing System, for today's lightweight DVCAM and DVC-PRO camcorders. Offers a sliding balance plate, independent Pan and Tilt locks, precision spirit level and integral 75mm ball leveling. The result is lightweight support that delivers superior performance.

Also included is a lightweight two-stage tripod with a 75mm-bowl fixing. Constructed of aluminum alloy with toggle leg clamping system and are independently adjustable. The ultimate for news gatherers who demand rock-solid stability under the most hostile location conditions.

DS-20 Fluid Head

Multi-Step Pan & Tilt Fluid Drag System
The multi-step Fluid Drag system ensures smooth, consistent fluid drag control across all temperature ranges and through a wide range of light and heavy settings. By being independent of payload weight, provides smooth "starts" and dead "stops" for precise framing without any backlash. The system is fully sealed within sub-assemblies for a leakproof, low maintenance life.
Preset Counterbalancing
Uses a special designed counterbalanced system, to neutralize the effect of payloads and their centers of gravity. The built-in preset counterbalance system optimizes tilt control in the intended capacity range.
Quick Release Camera Platform
Fitted with a precision, sliding quick release camera platform with self-engaging action. Ensuring rapid camera attachment, while the built-in safety lock guarantees camera safety during setup and pull-down.
Built-in bubble for horizontal leveling

Built-in bubble for horizontal leveling
75mm / 3" bowl base

    Miller DS-20 reviews

DS-20 Aluminum Tripod System is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Choose these sticks over the carbon fiber ones. The Miller head is a great fluid head, not a lot of bells and whistles, but it's the best four pound head out there. We do a lot of travel documentaries so this is on the plane 3-4 times a month. The aluminum sticks are both lighter and more stable than the carbon fiber ones, this is mainly due to the spreader. The twist knobs are also much, much preferable to the twist tubes on the carbon fiber sticks as well. I'm giving it 4 stars as the price is steep and I'm guessing the aluminum rods will only last 2-3 years with how much we beat these up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Many Cameras, One Tripod Love this system. Heard that it's best to 'reach' when investing in a tripod - get a good one and it'll serve you well over time. You'll go through several cameras during the life a single, solid tripod. I need to support a big DSLR rig with a bunch of accessories (monitor, H4n, Matte Box, etc) and this system handles it well (up to 20 lbs). The mid-level spreader and the large rubber feet provide real nice stability too. I can come off and go hand-held quite smoothly too, everything is well thought out. Expensive but it's forever. Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unstable, I use this tripod everyday for commercial production. It is nice and light to carry, but if you burp near it, it shakes. It actually shakes right in the head, so there is nothing you can do. Wide shots are fine, but don't plan on getting tight shots with it. Junk, I would not buy it again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great customer support from Miller The head is as smooth as can be. A little lacking on features, but for this brand and this 75mm size, I assume its in line with others.Packs small in a nice bag.
