Freewell Quick Swap Filter Set Overview

From Manufacturer

The 82mm M2 Magnetic Quick Swap Filter 5-Pack from Freewell combines five popular filters in one convenient kit for photographers of all levels. These filters mount magnetically in just seconds without using threads. Multiple filters may be stacked for more creative control. The kit has a mounting ring that mounts on any camera lens with a 82mm front filter thread. It also includes a magnetic front cap with a convenient holder.

Each filter is made from premium German optical glass and is multicoated to reduce flare and optimize light and color transmission. In addition, each filter features a layer of protective coating to make it scratch-resistant, waterproof, dustproof, and oil-resistant. This makes them ideal for use in harsh environments and also easy to clean. The slim magnetic mounting rings make the filter resistant to vignetting, even on wide-angle lenses.

UV Filter
A UV filter is a general-use, clear filter designed to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight, providing truer colors when shooting landscapes. Aside from the reduction of unwanted blue casts, no additional coloration or contrast is created, and adjustments to exposure are not required while using this filter.
CPL Filter
A circular polarizing filter helps reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a nonmetallic surface. This results in a noticeable increase in the saturation of skies and foliage. It can eliminate reflections and glare when shooting through glass or the surface of water. It also saturates the sky for deeper blues that make clouds pop.
ND8, ND64, and ND1000 Filters
This set of ND8, ND64, and ND1000 neutral density filters decreases exposure by 3 stops, 6 stops, and 10 stops, respectively, and can be stacked for increased density. Increasing neutral density offers finer control in available shutter speeds or aperture settings for both still and video applications. Using a longer shutter speed makes it possible to increase blur to convey a sense of movement or to dial in a video camera frame rate. Increased density also makes it possible to shoot using wider lens apertures, helping to isolate a subject from the background and increase bokeh.

Freewell Quick Swap Filter Set Reviews

Circular polarizer has issues

Overall it’s a nice kit and very convenient. The glass and coatings seem to be very good quality with little to no color cast from the ND filters. The magnets are very strong-almost too strong, which causes problems when using the circular polarizer. When attempting to rotate the polarizer, the magnets are so strong it unscrews the mounting ring when turning the filter clockwise or welds the adapter to the lens when turned counter clockwise. Not sure why they chose to use a single ring vs one for mounting and the other to allow free rotation like virtually ever other polarizer on the market??? Seems like a fairly large design flaw to me, but I can work with it until I find something better.

Easy to use

Very easy to use. The magnets are strong and I am not worried about them accidentally dislodging. The CPL spins nicely without any issues. If you get the 82mm it's a bit tight in the case. I am not sure if it is better in the smaller sizes but that would be the only complaint I have with it.

How can you adapt this to smaller lens filter size besides a standard step-up ring? Anything magnetic that's special for this?
Asked by: Ignacio
Freewell provide the Freewell Magnetic Step-Up Ring in multiple size. if the step up size is not available on your lens thread size you will need a step up ring with the Freewell Empty Magnetic Base Ring (82mm). Please review Freewell step up ring on the link below and select the correct size from the "Step Up Size- Lens to Filter".
