I probably should have noticed, but this rather expensive battery charger does not come with a plug-in charger. It has only a USB. And, the space for the battery is so loose that the light does not stay on. How would I know that the battery is charged if the light doesn't tell me? I regret buying it.

I have 2 OM TG-6 Cameras. It is a PAIN to connect the charging plug to the camera. This Charger makes it so simple to charge my camera's Batteries. This Charger is easily worth the money. I Love IT !

Must I use the F-5AC adapter mentioned in the instruction booklet, or may a generic AC adapter be used?

When using the OM SYSTEM UC-92 Battery USB Charger, an OM SYSTEM brand AC adapter is not necessary - but if you use a third-party brand AC adapter, you will need to test to see if it can power the charger and charge the battery. An F-5AC adapter is recommended in the manual as it would be able to power up and charge the battery.

How long is the charging cable?

The manufacturer does not have a length for the OM SYSTEM UC-92 Battery USB Charger wire. According to reviews it is only a few inches, definitely less than a foot.
