Offering long reach with an advanced feature set and optical design, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO Lens from OM SYSTEM is a versatile, 80-300mm-equivalent telephoto zoom for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. As part of the PRO series of advanced lenses, this zoom distinguishes itself with a bright f/2.8 constant maximum aperture for consistent illumination throughout the zoom range to suit working in a variety of lighting conditions. Its optical design makes use of a series of aspherical and low dispersion glass elements to suppress chromatic and spherical aberrations for notable sharpness and clarity, and a ZERO lens coating reduces flare and ghosting for high-contrast, color-accurate imaging.
Complementing the optics, a dual VCM autofocus system offers fast and near-silent focusing performance to suit both stills and movie recording applications. A manual focus clutch permits quick switching between AF and MF, and a programmable L-Fn button avails lens-based control over shooting settings. The lens is also weather sealed for working in trying conditions, and a rotating tripod collar is included for improved balance and support when working atop a tripod or monopod.

Waited a Long Time
I've put off and put off on this purchase. In fact I bought the 100-400mm last year instead of this one. And don't get me wrong the 100-400 is great for birds far away on in trees. But it is just a little heavy for me. This made me a little sad that I didn't get the 40-150mm instead. So this year when it was on sale I bought it. With the intent of selling my 100-400mm to help with the cost. But I've change my mind. I'm keeping both. This 40-150mm is perfect for my backyard birds. And the 100-400mm is great for all others. After playing around with the 40-150mm I have found that it is not only great for your backyard birds but also your pet photography, landscapes too. To be honest, it hasn't come off my camera yet. And the fact that it is a f2.8 is a bonus for me. The other great thing is that this lens doesn't extend like my 100-400mm. Again a big plus for me. I will say the lens hood takes some getting use to and can get in the way if you shoot manual, so I just leave it off. If you're on the fence like I was, take it from me, don't hesitate and wait on getting this lens. You'll be sad. Just take the plunge and enjoy doing photography again.
