Sirui SATURN Anamorphic 50mm T2.9 Overview

The Canon RF-mount Saturn 50mm T2.9 1.6x Carbon Fiber Anamorphic Lens from Sirui provides a classic anamorphic look in a compact, lightweight form. Ideal for gimbal, stabilizer, drone, and handheld use, this lens measures only 4.2" in length and features a carbon fiber barrel that reduces the weight of the lens. The lens produces horizontal blue streaks when pointed at a light source, giving your footage a classic anamorphic look.

An image captured in 16:9 is de-squeezed to an anamorphic 2.8:1 aspect ratio, whereas shooting in 3:2 yields a 2.4:1 final image. The T2.9 aperture produces a shallow depth of field, separating your subject from the foreground, and the 10-blade aperture creates oval bokeh effects.

Full-Frame Coverage
  • The large 45mm image circle covers up to full-frame camera sensors.
  • Aspherical elements eliminate chromatic aberration.
Lightweight Design
  • This Saturn-series lens is made with a carbon fiber front barrel that reduces the overall weight while remaining durable.
  • The compact, lightweight design is ideal for handheld, gimbal, and stabilizer use.
Anamorphic Design
  • Horizontal blue streak effects create a classic anamorphic look.
  • 10 aperture blades produce oval bokeh effects.
Constant 1.6x Squeeze
  • The 50mm Saturn lens maintains a constant 1.6x squeeze ratio at all focusing points, ensuring that the subject size doesn't change as you pull the focus.

Sirui SATURN Anamorphic 50mm T2.9 Reviews

I think I'm in Love

Just about all my lenses are Canon L Series lenses. They have been good. But I wanted my videos to look more cinematic, and saw this lens. I took a chance and bought it at a price much lower than any Canon lens. I took it out for my first run and connected it to my Canon R6V. I shot some footage in Disneyland. I came back, de-squeezed it in FCPX. And as I sat there, I felt something in my chest that I haven't felt in a while. Usually, that's when I am in love with a woman. But it's been a few years and watching the footage from this lens, I think I fell in love again. The build seems sturdy. I was surprised at how small the lens was, especially compared to its sister lens (from my research there wasn't much of a quality difference so I went with this much lighter one). This is my first fully manual lens, so I will have to get used to that. But it's beautiful... it really is.

The Sirui Saturn 50mm T2.9 1.6x Carbon Fiber Full-Frame Anamorphic Lens may or may not require a gimbal to need counterweights, depending on the system it is being used on and how it is being balanced onto the gimbal.
