In looking for a referee headset, I had tried multiple wired and wireless headsets and did not want to spend a fortune. The Litecomm was a great choice. I can still wear ear protection and communicate clearly with my partner. Still working on the finer details of use, but so far seems to be a great purchase.
Decent but not the best

As a drone crew operating on large sets around the world, we had high hopes for these intercoms. After using Eartec products for over 7 years, I was excited to see how this new set would compare. Unfortunately, while there are some strong points, they didn’t quite live up to expectations. Here's a breakdown of the pros and cons:
Pros:
Lightweight & Comfortable: The intercoms are very lightweight, which is great for long days on set. They’re comfortable to wear with all types of hats or headgear, which is important when working in various conditions.
No Heat Build-Up: The design doesn’t cause your ears to overheat, which is a welcome feature on long shifts.
Good Battery Life: The battery performance is solid and matches the manufacturer’s claims. We’ve had no issues with it running out unexpectedly.
Mute Button: The mute button is a great addition for managing communication, though it can be a bit confusing when used alongside the mic fold-up mute feature.
Mic Design: The mic doesn’t rotate all the way around, making it easier to drink or eat without needing to reposition it.
Cons:
Connection Alerts: The intercom only provides an audible warning when you lose connection to your belt pack, not to the host. This can be frustrating in a busy environment where communication is critical.
Reconnection Issues: If the intercom has been out of range for a while, it sometimes requires a reset to reconnect. This can be a hassle, especially during fast-paced production.
Background Noise Pickup: One of the bigger disappointments is the lack of effective noise cancellation. The system picks up a lot of background noise, particularly higher-pitched sounds like voices, zippers, and other environmental noises. This makes it harder to focus on communication and can be distracting.
Open-Ear Design: While the open-ear design is a double-edged sword, it’s both a pro and a con. On one hand, it’s great for situational awareness and being able to hear others speak clearly. On the other, when there’s communication coming through the system, it can feel overwhelmingly loud and difficult to block out, especially if others are talking in the background. In certain situations, a cup-style earpiece might provide better isolation.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, the vaxis intercom system has some great features but falls short in a few key areas, particularly when it comes to background noise cancellation and connection reliability with eartecs getting better range and also better noise cancellation. For those who need a lightweight, comfortable system for short-range communication, this could be a decent choice. However, for professional drone crews working in complex environments, I would recommend considering alternatives that offer more robust noise cancellation and connection stability.
