Saramonic Prox Txr Overview

The Blink 500 ProX TXR from Saramonic is a miniature clip-on microphone/transmitter with onboard recording function available as an individual component to expand your existing wireless setup or for use as a backup transmitter. When used with a Blink 500 ProX RX, RXDi, or RXUC receiver (all available separately), the system offers an ultracompact solution that lets you record one or two wireless mics to cameras and smartphones (depending on the receiver used).

The tiny transmitter weighs just over 1 oz and features a built-in clip and an omnidirectional microphone, making it simple to attach to a lapel or shirt for quick and easy true-wireless audio. For a more discreet look, you can plug the included SR-M1 lavalier microphone into the 3.5mm input jack and use the Blink 500 ProX TXR as a beltpack transmitter. The system uses digital technology in the 2.4 GHz bandwidth to ensure reliable wireless transmission with a maximum line-of-sight range of 328'.

Onboard Recording and Controls
  • The TXR features 8GB of internal memory capable of storing up to 14.8 hours of 16- or 24-bit audio at 48 kHz in lossless .WAV formats. An inset tactile switch can toggle recording on and off and ensures accidental jostling will not affect the transmitter.
  • Input level control, mute, and selectable mic- or line-level inputs allow you to customize your audio experience even further.
Long Battery Life
The transmitter is powered by an internal, 400mAh, rechargeable lithium-ion battery that can run for up to 11 hours when not in recording mode. When onboard recording is toggled, the battery life is reduced to 8.5 hours. Recharge the battery via USB-C port, which can also power the unit if connected to AC power. A charging cable is included with the transmitter.

Saramonic Prox Txr Reviews

Nice

I use this tiny device as an standalone recorder, i.e. not wireless transmission. I record line-level signals and it does the job fairly well. I connect a 3.5mm TRS cable to it instead of a mic, so I cannot say anything about the lav or the embedded mic quality. I had been looking for an easy and inexpensive way to record line or mic level signals for almost two years but most recorders around, e.g. Zoom, Tascam, OM system, etc. have more features than I need and they are not as simple to operate as in this device where you just slide a switch to start and stop the recording, plus they are costly and reviews do not seem satisfactory. So one day I found in the Saramonic website a new recorder having a strange form factor and discovered a new category of recorders: wireless transmitters with onboard recording. After a bit of investigation I found Rode also made this kind of widgets, but the catch is that only Saramonic allowed line-level so there is no need to attenuate the incoming signal down to mic level :) There were no reviews for the Saramonic recorder but the price caught my attention and finally made my purchase here at B&H with an additional discount!. The recorder behaves as expected, does not add any noise, and it's easy super easy to operate. However, it's really, really small and one has to be careful for not pushing the wrong button accidentally. I keep the provided USB cable plugged all the time to avoid future problems due to frequent connection/disconnection. I also do the same with the 3.5mm input. I like the resulting recordings "honor" the incoming signal, that is, no coloration occurs, i.e. the frequency response is flat.

The Description Is Inaccurate

I gave this five stars as I just received the unit and haven't put it through its paces as of yet, but I did find an inaccurate statement in the BH description. It does NOT have an Upgraded OLED Screen, in fact, there is no screen on the front of the transmitter. There are only two indicator lights. This makes it difficult to adjust the volume controls when using the built in recorder (not connected to a camera). So, BH, you may want to update your listing.
