The Sabrent NVMe M.2 SSD to PCIe Adapter Card with Aluminum Heatsink provides you with a way to expand your storage through a PCIe x16 slot. Support for PCIe x4 5.0 lanes allows for transfer speeds up to 16 Gb/s to keep up with high speed SSDs. This card also supports both M-key NVMe SSDs as well as older B+M-key PCIe SSDs in the M.2 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280 form factors for more flexibility.

A tool-less design makes installation easy. With backwards compatibility, it will work with previous generation PCIe slots at the speed of the slower component. The aluminum heatsink helps dissipate heat and keep your SSD running at its optimal speeds.

Works Great in PCIe x8 Slot

Works just like any other internal drive. Used the Partition Manager/Disk Manager to configure the drives mount at boot. If you don't configure to mount at boot, it looks like a removable external thumb-drive - works but requires interactive clicks to mount. I have 2 of these in my Linux tower system (Dell P5860). They are installed in PCIe x8 slots. (The little cuts in the connector edge make this compatible with x8 and x16 slots. Might work in an x4 because x4 is sufficient bandwidth for 1 drive but I did not test x4.) Samsung SSD 980 Pro 2TB M.2 Internal (no heat sink) installed in each one. There are thermal conducting sticky pads included with the product - you need to peel the clear tape off of those and install one under the SSD to assure optimal heat transfer else the SSD will self-limit performance or perhaps overheat. I suggest getting the newer offering - presently PCIe 4.0 support - which is faster when used in systems that support PCIe 4.0 than older offering that supports PCIe 3.0. I have both adapters, both work in the PCIe 4.0 system.

Does this work in a PCI Express x16 slot, running at x4 (PCIEX4) on a Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H motherboard? I need it for an M.2 SSD
