FLUX IRCAM TRAX Overview

From Manufacturer

Sporting innovative signal transformation algorithms, IRCAM TRAX from FLUX is a plug-in suite of three ingenious processors for transforming voices, instruments, and mixes using spectral and temporal analysis. Alter parameters like pitch, timbre, duration, gender, age, and breath, for cinema, TV, and game postproduction efforts.

TRAX leverages pioneering technology developed by the sound analysis and synthesis team at IRCAM. Like most FLUX plug-ins, IRCAM TRAX includes a parameter morphing slider with automation support for easy and intuitive manipulations in a DAW environment. This plug-in is available for AAX, AU, and VST plug-in formats for macOS and Windows computers.

TRAX Transformer: Source and Target
With the Spectral Envelope, complex remapping of the actual spectrum envelope, according to a freely definable curve, can be performed. Target provides a range of options for the transformation of the source material.

In voice mode, a range of vocal types/ranges and parameters such as gender, age, and breath are available. For all types of material, pitch, expression, and formant are provided as well.

TRAX Transformer: Spectral Envelope
Up to eight channels of simultaneous processing is possible for multichannel surround configurations. The processing can be disengaged on any of the channels leaving the material unprocessed and bypassing the original sound.

When operating on a multichannel bus all channels are processed by default, though the processing can also be disengaged for any number of channels. By doing this, in combination with serial instances, the material on any number of channels can be processed with individual settings.

Cross Synthesis: Spectral Envelope Morphing Processor
TRAX Cross Synthesis utilizes a phase vocoder to morph the spectral characteristics of two sounds. The amplitude and frequency/phase spectra can be blended continuously, and since the features that are used here are strongly nonlinear, the sound morphing is nonlinear as well, offering a way to create a wide range of new exciting and unusual sound effects.
Source Filter: Enhanced Sound Filtering
TRAX Source Filter is based on a signal model decomposing the signal into a time envelope that describes the energy/loudness contour of the sound, and a spectral envelope describing the spectral color of the sound timbre. The energy contour and the spectral color of the source sound can be continuously blended with the spectral color and energy contour of an arbitrary filter, allowing transformation that extends well beyond the more common source filter morphing effect.
