This Lens Shoe for Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 Macro G OSS II Lens from Rogeti is an accessory shoe that attaches to the foot of the rotating tripod collar to add compatibility with Arca-type quick release clamps. This adds a nice Arca-Swiss mount to the "shoe" on the Sony 70-200 F4 II lens. This lens only has 1 threaded hole in the shoe, so most adaptors won't fit/work correctly; this one does. It is hard to believe that Sony does not include the Acra Swiss mount on the shoe from the factory, but this product does for a reasonable price.
Sony’s lens collar lacks an Arca-Swiss-type bevel, unlike some Tamron or Sigma lens collars. As of April 26, 2024, the only dedicated QR plates for the Sony 70-200mm f/4 II Macro are this plate and Rogeti’s longer version that also fits the 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 GM. The other options are a general purpose QR plate (potential twisting issue unless you drill and tap a second hole) or replacing Sony’s collar with an aftermarket collar that incorporates an A-S-type foot. This shorter Rogeti QR plate for Sony 70-200mm f/4 II Macro lens has the following specifications as measured with vernier calipers and a torsion balance: 38mm wide x 59mm long x 9.9mm max thickness; the recessed area for the collar foot is 8.35mm thick Weight with coin-type screwdriver: 36.75g Weight without coin-type screwdriver: 31.35g Bolt extends 5.15mm (0.203 inch) from the recessed area’s top surface. The threaded hole in my Sony 70-200mm f/4 II Macro lens is 7.4mm deep so a slightly longer bolt could be used if desired. The Sony collar’s foot fits securely in the plate’s recessed area. The minimal amount of rotation possible should accommodate any manufacturing tolerances in the foot or plate. The Rogeti plate shows excellent compatibility with the more demanding lever-type Arca-Swiss-type clamps. It attached securely to my Really Right Stuff B2-LR-II Lever-Release Clamp (60mm). The plate’s bottom lacks threaded holes for optional “safety stop” screws to prevent it sliding out of a untightened A-S clamp. You could drill and tap a through hole near the front for a front stop. The back is problematic because of the central cut-away for the coin-type screwdriver. Replacing the coin-type screwdriver with a bolted-on plate plus a stop screw or possibly drilling and tapping the coin-type screwdriver might be an option at the rear. I may do these modifications in the future. The plate also lacks a camera strap boss or a Quick Detach socket. I do not use the QD system or a strap to the lens. Rogeti also makes a longer QR plate that fits both the Sony 70-200mm f/4 II Macro and the larger 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM. I would hesitate getting this for the 70-200mm because this longer plate extends further back and might not clear the camera body’s hand grip, preventing collar use or rotation through this position.
