Shure MV7 Overview

Shure MV7+ Podcast XLR/USB Microphone (Black)
The Shure MV7+ Podcast Mic, styled here in black, makes getting a professional podcast sound easier than ever. Like the original MV7, the MV7+ is a high-quality, broadcast-style dynamic microphone that delivers a clear and present sound and features both a conventional XLR connection and a USB port, allowing you to use it with audio interfaces, mixers, hard disk recorders, or direct to computers and mobile devices. But this updated "+" version adds several key features to improve your podcasting experience, including a customizable full-color LED touch panel with metering, improved DSP functions for better sound quality with less noise, 3 reverb options, a USB-C connector, and deep integration with Shure's MOTIV Mix software for complete control over a wide range of sound-sculpting parameters.
What's New?
  • Multicolor LED touch panel: add vibrant color to your sound with the LED touch panel. Select from 16.8 million hues and use it as an audio-level meter or switch on an eye-catching pulse effect. Don't want a constant hot mic? Instantly mute the MV7+ by tapping anywhere on the LED panel.
  • Real-time Denoiser: cutting-edge DSP technology eliminates ambient noise in your room and complements the mic's Voice Isolation Technology to ensure you sound great, even in imperfect recording conditions.
  • Digital Popper Stopper: a virtual pop filter removes harsh plosive sounds, so you can avoid acoustic distractions on your audio tracks and a physical pop filter on camera when you're filming.
  • Improved Auto-Level mode: the improved Auto-Level function adjusts your mic's gain based on distance, volume, and spatial detection for optimized audio levels.
  • Onboard Reverb: 3 types of onboard reverb settings (Plate, Hall, and Studio) provide enhanced depth and richness in music recordings.
  • Hybrid XLR and USB-C outputs: the dual options provide easy connectivity no matter the recording setup you're using. The micro-USB connector from the MV7 has been upgraded to a USB-C connector on the MV7+.
  • MOTIV Mix integration: MOTIV Mix software is the key to unlock powerful onboard DSP features in every MV7+ when using the USB-C output. Configure and set up your microphone to personalize the vibrant LED touch panel and optimize mic settings, including the sound signature, gain, EQ, compressor, limiter, and more. Save presets for instant recall of settings.
Legendary Broadcast Sound
The mic takes its design and sonic cues from the Shure SM7B, a classic used on countless podcasts and radio broadcasts. Use the mic in close proximity to your voice and you'll find it exhibits a clear, intelligible, and high-quality sound. The frequency response is optimized for a rich and natural vocal reproduction. The MV7+ is also very well suited to vocalists and musicians, handling SPLs up to 128 dB and delivering a wide 50 Hz to 16 kHz frequency response.

The mic features a unidirectional cardioid polar pattern, which is the best natural defense against room noise: since the capsule mostly captures what's directly in front of it, you won't pickup as much room noise as you would with an omnidirectional mic. Depending on your particular room, you may still need a little room treatment, or use the mic's noise-reduction software, to address issues such as your computer's hum or your air conditioner—but the chances of that are markedly lower with a cardioid polar pattern.

Flexible Workflows, Rugged Appointments, Integrated Controls
Thanks to its multiple outputs, you can use this mic with nearly any podcasting setup. The mic works with your audio interface, field recorder, mixer, or computer (over USB-C) as well as select Android devices and iOS devices. The device is also MFi-certified.

The included foam windscreen has been extended to introduce an air gap for improved protection against plosives and p-pops, greatly simplifying your editing process. With its built-in ready-to-mount yoke, the mic offers a build quality that is rugged, with an all-metal construction for reliability in mission-critical circumstances.

On the USB side, the mic provides broadcast-quality specs and intuitive functionality. Capture audio at sample rates and resolutions up to 48 kHz / 24-bit, which is the standard for editing and mixing broadcast audio. Use the integrated touch-panel interface on the mic itself to control levels, headphone volumes, monitor mix, and mic-mute.

The mic offers a headphone jack for monitoring. Just plug a pair of headphones into the MV7+'s 3.5mm jack, and you'll be able to listen to your high-quality audio in all its glory. Mix your mic output and system audio playback levels individually with dedicated sliders in the MOTIV Mix desktop app.

The Auray BAI-2N is a two-section broadcast arm with internal springs . This versatile and sturdy broadcast arm is great for studio as well as home use. It's ideal for broadcast, voiceover, and podcasts.

The BAI-2N broadcast arm is designed with internal springs that provide a clean and sleek look. The internal balance springs are precision engineered to support and hold in place microphones of up to 5 lb / 2.27kg. The design also minimizes handling noise when re-positioning the arm. The broadcast arm features a standard 5/8"-27 microphone stud mount that is compatible with most shockmounts and microphone clips. The angle of the microphone stud mount can be adjusted and secured with the locking knob, and the angle is maintained when re-positioning the arm. The BAI-2N also features a heavy-duty combo mount that consists of a sturdy C-clamp and a heavy-metal desktop mount. The C-clamp is capable of fastening onto desktops up to 2.3" thick. What is the thread size on the mount connection? Will it fit with Auray MS-5230T Tripod Microphone Stand?
Asked by: Hunter
The Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone has a yoke mount with a 5/8" thread, which is the same thread size as the Auray MS-5230T Tripod Microphone Stand, so they are directly compatible for use together.

is there a shock mount that will work with the MV7? and what is the best pop filter to use with it?
Asked by: Matthew
I use the windscreen on my SM7B (the thin one) and it works much better but I still have breathing and plosive issues (Ps Ts Ss) all can be a problem but yeah I like the SM7B windscreen (thin not thick) and IMO it sounds superior to the SM7B.

why is the silver version cheaper than the black one?
Asked by: Andrew
B&H priced it that way, but silver and black are the same microphones just a different color. Black is more popular thats why price is a little higher. Hope this helps.

If I want to use the MV7 with the Zoom H6 would I need a cloudlifter?
Asked by: andrew
A Cloudlifter is recommended, as this Mic has low sensitivity and requires a lot of gain, which may increase noise. It does depend on the Mic Pre; see below. At a sensitivity of -55 dBv, the Shure MV7 would require 55dB of gain to achieve the same level as what is "heard" by MV7 diaphram. As an example, a Focusrite Solo has Mic Pre gain of: "Up to" +56 dB this means the Mic Pre Gain would have to be fully cranked to achieve unity gain. Please note that the higher the negative dBV, the lower the sensitivity. That is, a mic with a sensitivity of -56dBV is less sensitive than a mic with a sensitivity of -38dBV, but more sensitive than a mic with a sensitivity of -65dBV. A more logical way to look at it is to think about how much gain will be required to amplify the test signal up to a level of one volt (One Volt is the "Unity Gain" number), the level as supplied "Into" the microphone.

I need to have a 3.5 mm connection (to a camera). What cable/adapter do I need?
Asked by: William
While it is possible to connect this mic to the 3.5mm input on a camera with this cable, BH #KOXRSM06B, the preamp of the camera would not do a great job of amplifying the signal and could introduction unwanted noise into the recording. We would recommend using a mixer/ recorder in between the mic and camera to give you a stronger mic preamp for a cleaner signal into the camera. Here's a recommendation, BH# TADR60DMKIIK.

The rear of the mic has a headphone jack that provides PC audio when connected to a PC. I am not familiar with your hardware, but hopefully, that helps you.

What are the benefits of connecting it via XLR (to an audio interface) vs connecting it to the computer via USB?
Asked by: Elazar
Using the Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone's XLR output connection allows for customizing your signal chain for use with an interface of your choice and a clean recording of the microphone's audio signal. The advantage of the USB connection is the elimination of an external interface and direct connection to a computer for recording.
