Works okay with Helios 44-2 lens

I cine modded one of my Helios 44-2 lenses and wanted to try Simmod LPL Conversion kit. It works okay, but since there is no Pro Lock feature on any of the M42 lenses other than super Takumars, it’s a bit questionable to spend $189 on a pretty much screw on adapter. It’s high quality there is no question about that. Of course I knew that it wasn’t gonna be performing as well as Super Takumar lenses. But I think Simmod is an amazing company and I expect that they would come up with a solution for every M42 lenses. Regardless, I’m happy with it but that being said i will not get 4 more of this adapter for my other m42 mount lenses. I will get them for my Canon FD SSC set though. Those will work great I’m sure.

I picked up one of these adapters to test out on one of my Asahi SMC Takumar lenses, before I buy them for all my lenses. Below are my thoughts. 1. As there are no written instructions provided on how to install the LPL mount, perhaps a link to written step by step instructions would be beneficial. I found the video on Simmods website that shows how you to install. That video feels like it is more for pushing product. 2. In regard to that instructional video, it shows the LPL mount has a specific red dot that you align with the lenses orange diamond shaped focusing mark. I believe, for the Takumar lens, the red dot is in the wrong place on the LPL mount. The LPL mount will come into contact with the aperture tab on the back of the Takumar lens. This causes two issues. 1. The adapter does sit correctly on the back of lens;  and 2. The force placed on the aperture tab obstructs turning the iris ring, and you're not able to change F stops. On the inner opening of the LPL mount, there is an indent approx. 2 inches long, that aligns with the red dot. I observed that if you rotate the LPL mount 90° left from the way the video says to install the mount, that indent clears the aperture tab. The LPL mount will then sit flush on the back of the lens and not obstruct use of the iris ring (see image). As this LPL mount  is made to work with all M42 lenses, I believe this flaw is in regard to the Takumars. 3. On the plus side, there is no play with this LPL mount, as long as it is installed correctly. The mount is constructed of sturdy materials, though the screws are small and delicate. Not sure how much wear and tear they can take.  4. More shim options are needed for this mount. I can get to close to focussing to infinity, but need thinner shims options for fine tuning to get there.  I could be wrong about some/all of this, as I came to these conclusions from trial and error. If I am wrong, please, someone correct me.

No, the Simmod M42 Lens to ARRI LPL Camera Conversion Mount has been designed to adapt different mounts strictly to the ARRI LPL mount.

All the shims that are provided are the same thickness, Are there more shim options than what is provided?

At this time the only shim set is the one that comes with the Simmod M42 Lens to ARRI LPL Camera Conversion Mount.
