USB4 NVMe SSD Enclosure
The USB4 NVMe SSD Pro enclosure allows quick and easy installation of your M.2 NVMe drive. With a focus on supporting USB4/Thunderbolt 4 high-speed SSDs, it boasts an upstream port transmission speed of up to 40 Gb/s. Not only does it work with USB4, Thunderbolt 4, and Thunderbolt 3 interfaces, but it is also downward compatible with USB 3.2 Gen 2 10 Gb/s, Gen 1 5 Gb/s, and USB 2.0 480 Mb/s, making it the perfect solution for seamless data transfer and data backup. Installed WD 2TB WD_BLACK SN850X which worked seemlessly in Satechi USB4 NVMe SSD Pro Enclosure connected to 2019 Intel iMac via TB3. Also using with M4 MBP via TB4.

Does the job, but has one major flaw

I'll start with the flaw: It doesn't latch closed – neither with an NVMe card nor empty. You need a strong rubber band to keep it closed. Closer examination shows the latching mechanism to be poorly designed. The instructions are clear; and I mounted a Patriot Viper VP4300 Lite M.2PCIe Gen4X4 NVMe SSD (Read up to 7400MB/s) with no trouble. Once closed (with the rubber band), it reads and writes with the same speeds as my OWC Express M12 Enclosure (R-3000MB/s, W-1900MB/s). It got warm, but never hot in my tests, which included massive data transfers. I bought it for the tool-less design. Even with the rubber band, it is faster to swap NVMe SSD's than with the enclosures that need to be bolted together. This is important when backing up massive video and photo files in the field. So, I will keep it, but I'm still looking for a better fast, tool-less TB4 or TB5 NVMe enclosure.

The Satechi USB4 NVMe SSD Pro Enclosure (B&H # SASTEU4NPM) is incompatible with SSD drives that have a heatsink; to use a Samsung 990 Pro with a heatsink, you can look at the HYPER HyperDrive Next USB4 NVMe M.2 PCIe Enclosure (B&H # HYHD2500GL).

Per B&H, " not compatible with NVMes...(with) heatsinks." Can B&H suggest enclosures that are compatible with heatsinks?

The Satechi USB4 NVMe SSD Pro Enclosure is for SSDs without heatsinks. Unfortunately, there isn't a similar option for SSDs with heatsinks.

NVMe SSDs used in the Satechi USB4 NVMe SSD Pro Enclosure only have the potential to go up to the max speed that this enclosure can support, which is 3840 MB/s.
