Shimbol M7 Overview

Add pro monitoring tools to your camera rig with the M7 7" Touchscreen 4K HDMI/3G-SDI Video Monitor with 3D LUT Output from Shimbol. This ultra-bright, 7" on-camera touchscreen display offers 1920 x 1080 resolution, 2000 cd/m² brightness, and the ability to input and output up to UHD 4K30 video via HDMI or up to 1080p via 3G-SDI. The monitor is designed with an all-aluminum chassis that will endure all conditions in the studio or on location.

Other features include 3D LUT support with custom LUT import via SD card, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a dual L-series battery plate, an 1800:1 contrast ratio, HDR/HLG mode monitoring, DCI-P3 and Delta E1 color gamut support, SDI to HDMI cross conversion, and an easy-to-use UI with numerous monitoring tools such as RGB parade, false color, anamorphic ratio, waveforms, masking, and more.

High-Bright 7" Touchscreen Monitor
This 7" LCD on-camera monitor features 2000 cd/m² and an 1800:1 contrast ratio for daylight visibility.

Supports HDMI input/output up to DCI 4K25 or UHD 4K30 and 3G-SDI input/output up to 1080p.
Dual L-Series Battery Plate
Power with the built-in dual L-Series battery plate or power your camera with a separately available power adapter using the DC output.

powers up only about 30-40% of the time

I bought this monitor a couple months ago and I've had nothing but problems with it. It doesn't power up about 40% of the time or less. I'm powering it with a Core Nano X 98w V mount battery and using a usb c from the battery and a barrel port at the monitor. I've tried several cables and consistantly got the same results. Occassionally it comes on first try and I'll use it for awhile, turn it off travel to another location and it won't turn on this time. I've tried resetting it by disconnecting it from the camera and battery and holding down the power button for 30 secs and sometimes it will come on but usually not. Most of the time I simply move on, put it away grab my back up camera and shoot stills. The next day it may power right up and it may not. This is obviously a completely unworkable situation. It can be powered by two Sony NP-F batteries but I bought the V mount and plate so I could run everything off one battery to keep weight down. This is a very common method which Shimbol claims is a valid option for this monitor. When it does work the monitor is bright, sharp with good color and contrast. The controls are simple and intuitive. There is a lag of about 5 seconds between taking photos and reviewing them. I am contacting Shimbol trying to get this issue resolved.

This field monitor is very well built and has a nice sharp picture. I'm still trying to dial it in color wise but overall I am really happy with the quality of this 7 SDI/HDMI display. The one negative is it does not display time code.

For best compatibility with the Shimbol M7 7" Touchscreen 4K HDMI/3G-SDI Video Monitor with 3D LUT Output, we recommend using a dummy battery AC power supply such as the Power2000 AC-F550 AC/DC Adapter with Sony L-Series Dummy Battery, BH #POACF550.

Does this monitor have a locking pin next the bottom quarter inch mounting point so it does not twist?

It has Arri locating holes between the 3 1/4-20s on the bottom. So no, it doesn't have a locating pin, but it has the holes for a locating pin from your monitor mount.
