Classic Design with Modern Additions
In keeping with the classic feel, the PRO-800 sports a pure analog signal path.
The sound engine is based on authentic VCO, VCF, and VCA designs that have made original synths like the Prophet 600 sought-after by many electronic musicians and enthusiasts.
Each of the 8 voices contains 2 VCOs for massive, detuned sound.
Unison mode on the PRO-800 also allows you to create some nice fat 16 oscillator lead and bass sounds.
Combine that with the ability to use up to 6 separately tweakable oscillator shapes (OSC A and B: saw, triangle and pulse) simultaneously and you can create some ultra-sizzly solos or ginormous bass tones.
The POLY MOD function even allows OSC B to modulate OSC A.
A Good Memory
Have a bevy of ideas but just can't remember them all—especially with the pressure of a live performance? Up to 400 patches can be stored on the PRO-800.
Simply enter the program number with the keypad and your patch will be ready for action.
Eurorack Ready
The PRO-800 is designed to fit into a standard Eurorack case.
Just connect the power cables to the power supply, and mount the module using the included screws.
This allows for the PRO-800 to be mixed with other synth modules for a truly unique setup.

AMAZING SOUND, presets flow not perfect but usable

I bought this because I'm in love with 80-90's analog synths sounds heard on the music of Talking Heads, Kraftwerk, Blade Runner, Twin Peaks, Radiohead, etc. This delivers 100%. It isn't exactly a Prophet-5 (it's a clone of a Prophet-600 which was a later model), but it's definitely in the same family of sounds, and a lot more compact. I appreciate that they sell it as a standalone synth module without a keyboard because it makes it much more portable and you can use your preferred controller. It's not the smallest synth ever, but it's very compact for an analog poly synth.
My only gripe is that the presets flow is not great. You have to use a workaround to customize the stock presets without overwriting them. But you can load in presets from your computer, which is nice, and you can save preset files elsewhere to expand the capacity. For this quality of sound at this price, it's unbeatable.
