Klark Teknik DN100 V2 Overview

Instantly recognizable by its purple color scheme, the popular Klark Teknik DN100 V2 is an active mono DI box essential to any audio tool box for sound professionals working live onstage or in the studio. The DN100 V2 is intended for professional applications where +48V phantom power is a standard feature on all mixing consoles. Its innovative design results in a significantly higher clipping point than with traditional, active DI boxes, providing +10 dBu output into a 2 kilohms load.

With its high headroom, dynamic response, and sonic clarity, the DN100 faithfully reproduces the character of electric and acoustic instruments, and captures all the details of your musical performances. Built to handle the rigors of life on the road, the unit features a thick aluminum housing and tough bumper-type silicone rubber sleeves to protect the electronics.

Balanced Linked Inputs
  • The DN100 V2 features one parallel-connected XLR and two 1/4"TRS inputs, one which may also be used as a link output for connection to a guitar or bass amplifier.
  • Connect line-level equipment to either the ¼" TRS or XLR inputs, which have an input impedance of 20 kilohms and offer low-noise performance.
  • When only the XLR input is used, an impedance of 20 kilohms optimizes use with line-level sources, otherwise a nominal impedance of 1 megohm is ideal for instrument pickups.
  • The other ¼" connector can be used as a link-through to pass the signal to an amplifier
Balanced Transformer-Isolated Output with Ground Lift
  • Care was taken in the design of the DN100 to avoid audio-transformer core saturation.
  • A fixed high-pass filter has been included in the signal path to roll off frequencies below those that are musically important (DN100 V2 still maintains a frequency response of ±0.5 dB at these lowest musical notes).
  • DN100 V2 also features a transformer to isolate the power rails to the input circuit from the phantom-power supply sourced from the output XLR connector.
  • When used in conjunction with the ground-lift switch, this full galvanic isolation of input and output interfaces ensures that any risk of ground loops is avoided when taking a direct feed from stage backline equipment.
Dual-Impedance Inputs
  • A custom instrumentation-grade input circuit was designed for the DN100 V2 using an advanced analog design to create the correct input impedance required by passive guitar and bass pickups, while keeping the actual component values low to minimize noise.
  • This design delivers a very low noise floor, which combined with the high clipping point creates an impressive dynamic range for a +48V phantom-powered DI Box.
Illuminated 20 dB Pad and Ground Lift Switches
  • DN100 features illuminated Pad and Ground Loop switches, which along with the +48V phantom power indicator LED, provide at-a-glance status display, even at wide distances and viewing angles.
  • When used in conjunction with the ground-lift switch, this full galvanic isolation of input and output interfaces ensures that any risk of ground loops is avoided when taking a direct feed from stage backline equipment.

Klark Teknik DN100 V2 Reviews

Brilliant Sounding Problem Solver

This DI Box is a real problem solver and sounds fantastic. I had some USB noise coming from the instrument input of an audio interface and this thing cleared that right up, as well as improving the sound of the bass guitar plugged into it.  In another case I had an interface without an instrument input, and I had two other DI boxes that had input impedances of 30kOhm (KlarkTeknik DI Pro AV 2) and unknown on the other and this box's 1MOhm input impedance ensured no signal loss with instruments with pickups and sounds fantastic.
