Behringer B-5 Overview

Ideal for home studios, the B-5 from Behringer is a small-diaphragm condenser microphone with interchangeable cardioid and omnidirectional capsules for maximum versatility. Sporting a switchable low-cut filter and -10 dB pad, the B-5 can easily handle a wide range of sources, from drum overheads and guitars to ensembles and choirs.

Use the cardioid capsule to capture single-source sounds like acoustic guitars or buy two for stereo-miked drums, and use the omnidirectional capsule for room ambience and orchestras. The gold-sputtered diaphragms and gold-plated XLR output ensure corrosion resistance and excellent conductivity for optimal signal integrity. The low-noise transformerless FET circuitry improves clarity. And with a satin nickel-plated brass body, the B-5 will stand up to years of rigorous studio recording. The B-5 includes a stand adapter, a windscreen, and a transport case.

Advantages of Condenser Mics
Condenser microphones are the ideal choice for capturing vocals and acoustic instruments. Condensers capture much more detail than most dynamic mics because of the high sensitivity and wider, flatter frequency response of their transducers, which use two electrically charged plates instead of a large coil.

As a result of this active charging of plates, condenser mics require power, unlike dynamic microphones. Ensure you have a mixer, interface, or in-line device capable of supplying the B-5 with its required +48V phantom power.

Ideal Applications
Small-diaphragm condenser mics are useful due to their small size, which make them easier to suspend from mic stands and position towards sound sources. They also capture superior high-frequency air, making them ideal for numerous specific applications, including:

  • Drum overheads (as a stereo pair)
  • Acoustic guitar
  • Ensembles
  • Choirs
  • Room ambience
  • Horns
  • Strings

kuddos to Bh photo customer service. outstanding customer service but.. this review is about a mic. actually two mics i bought, model behringer b-5. have you ever watched the movie independence day and at some point in the movie you hear this morse code type of intermitent sound when the signal is discovered in earth's satellite's network. well, one of my mics presented this problem, during the course of my line of communication with bhphoto and behringer the other mic started presenting the problem. is a total loss for me since i paid around 100 ish plus 45 ish for shipping international and i would lose so much more if i pay shipping back ... now all the hype in youtube videos about these mics makes perfect sense. so sad to hear videos of people only recommending and telling you to purchase. I will actually post a video of how bad it is. bhphoto thank you for taking care of me at least in emails but this is a loss for me./ simply dont have the spare cash to send them back to the USA. a loss for me. upon closer inspection i found a manufacturing defect, an opening. see the photos
