TASCAM BD-MP1 MK II Overview

The BP-MP1MKII from Tascam is a compact multi-format Blu-ray, DVD, and CD player with SD and USB flash support up to 512GB. Sporting a plethora of analog audio outputs as well as a fully featured HDMI port that supports Dolby Atmos, this player is ideal in wide ranging commercial, home theatre, public, entertainment, and educational applications.

You can playback media on most disc formats and external memory devices, including stills, video (up to 1080p), and a wide range of audio formats. The device includes balanced XLR audio outputs, RCA for stereo, 7.1 surround, and S/PDIF digital output, and both Ethernet and D-SUB RS-232C connections for external remote control. This 1 RU rack-mounted player includes a wireless remote control, batteries, a power cord, and set of rack screws.

Supports a Wide Range of Disc Formats
The BD-MP1MKII eliminates the need for discrete audio/video playback devices in an installation, offering single-source playback for a wide range of media and file formats, including:

  • Blu-ray (BD25, BD50, BD-ROM, BD-R, and BD-RE)
  • DVD (DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, and DBD+RW)
  • CD (CD-DA, CD-R, and CD-RW)
Versatile File Format Playback Support
The BD-MP1MKII is the ideal single-source playback solution for commercial and residential installations, supporting an extensive range of file formats, including:

  • Video (ASF, MPEG, AV1, 3GP, DAT, MKV, MOV, M2TS, OGM, TP, TS, MP4, and WMV)
  • Image (JPEG, GIF, and PNG)
  • Audio (WAV, MP3, WMA, AAC, FLAC, and APE)
Power-On Play and Repeat Mode
The unique Power-on Play feature allows the BD-MP1MKII to start playing desired content immediately on power up, without having to engage the Play feature first. With Repeat Mode set to on, content will automatically start, loop, and play continuously until power is turned off.
Panel Lock for Secure Operation
Panel lock, IR, and tray lock functions prevent accidental or user-error operation or alteration of pre-set controls in commercial installations, helping ensure consistent and reliable performance in any installation.
Hide Menu Function for Elegant Power Up Display Sequence
The monitor display can be set to show a black screen during start up rather than the manufacturer's standard factory setup and source select menus, creating an elegant and non-distracting visual start-up environment each time the system is turned on.
Dual USB Memory Ports
Two USB Memory Ports, one front panel and one back panel, allow fixed or interchangeable access to USB memory data for playback versatility.
HDMI Output
A standard rear panel HDMI output connection provides easy, reliable plug-and-play connection to any HDMI-compatible monitor display or television. In addition to HD video, Dolby Atmos audio can also be output.
Versatile I/O
Highlighting its appeal to commercial installation environments, the BD-MP1MKII offers professional-grade XLR balanced stereo analog outputs as well as RCA unbalanced stereo outputs for versatility in audio routing, connection, and setup. The BD-MP1MKII provides support for professional-grade digital audio output formats, including Dolby Audio, DTS, and others via back-panel Coaxial and Digital Audio output connections. Playback of 2 channel linear PCM is also supported. Finally, you get RCA outputs for 7.1 surround sound systems, including left and right, center, side left and right, surround back and right, and subwoofer.
IP and RS-232C Ports for External Remote Control
Seamless, reliable two-way device status feedback and control is offered for professional installations via back panel RS-232C and Ethernet connections, enabling the BD-MP1MKII to be integrated into more sophisticated AV setups.

Better than the D_ _ _ N Blu Ray

Used the D_ _ _N version for years. Needed another rack mount Blu-Ray for an additional setup, and this is the only one available. I like the Tascam better. The discs load faster, SD card is recessed and locks into place (The D_ _ _ N just sits halfway in) and the menu is easy to navigate. Outputs include 7.1, digital out for home theater, analog (stereo) Left/Right RCA and XLR outputs The stereo RCA outputs go into the Yamaha PX5 amp mounted in my rack, but I can also connect a set of powered speakers directly to the Tascam. Be sure to set audio to variable out so you can control the volume via remote control. And speaking of remotes: they are available to buy if you lose one or just want an extra. Overall, I am very happy with the Tascam BD-MP1MKII, and I had a great buying experience because the item cane quickly. I recommend this product AND buying from B&H!

I purchased this unit to replace an older model Tascam BD-MP1 that stopped outputting video. So far, this BD-MP1 MkII is working flawlessly. It's identical in appearance and operation to the old BD-MP1 so the learning curve was instantaneous. As always, B&H Photo delivered the unit quickly and in perfect condition and at a great price.

Can the Tascam BD-MP1 MkII play Blu-ray Discs other than region 1 (region 2 and 3)? Thank you

The TASCAM BD-MP1MKII Blu-Ray Player with SD and USB Playback (1 RU) that B&H offers is locked to Region A blu-ray discs, and Region 1 DVD discs. It supports different DVD disc types (BD-R, BD-RE, BD-ROM, BD25, BD50, CD-DA, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-ROM, DVD-RW), as well as different audio formats (AAC, APE, FLAC, MP3, WAV, WMA), but it is not multi-region.
