Aputure Sidus One Reviews

Maybe

Oct 27th, 2024 TLDR: Streamlined and a big step up for use with Aputure lights but it's severely limited or unusable with some non-Aputure lights that need a custom profile. It only runs on iPad, no Android support yet. The Sidus One transceiver is nice, but the Sidus Link Pro software rev 1.2 has a long way to go. The ability to add in custom profiles is still grayed out , and the few profiles preloaded into the SLP app is very limited. Off the hip, maybe 1/100th of what you would find in Blackout. If you are a heavy user of Aputure lights then it's actually pretty nice. That you can control older legacy bluetooth only lights along with your CRMX, and wireless DMX lights, and still within a single app is smoother and valuable to keep the workflow cleaner. Regarding the stupid reconnection issues when you walk away from your Aputure bluetooth controlled lights and come back into range, the Sidus Link Pro app takes the typical 10 seconds to reconnect, but in my experience it seems to be better to auto reconnect than using the Sidus Link app on a phone. If you are shooting a narrative piece then this would be hard to rationalize using a Sidus One over a Blackout along with a AKS Ratpac. It's unlikely that you'll save on budget overall because of the lost time in trying to figure out work arounds for the limits of the Sidus One and it's Sidus Link Pro app. If you are a one man band, and do primarily commercial work, with mostly Aputure gear, then this is a great piece to have in your daily kit. Either way, Luminaire, Blackout, or Sidus One, you are going to need wireless DMX receivers for all the non-Aputure, non-CRMX lights that have that 5 pin DMX input, and you'll need the ability for adding those profiles, which Sidus Link Pro doesn't have, so keep that in mind.

Issues on wifi

Nicely built unit but on real-life sets this struggles with delay as the wifi networks are so overloaded with video and audio signals. Hopefully an ethernet adaptor is supplied in the future otherwise it is somewhat useless.
