Sony BRC-AM7 Overview

Advanced PTZ Camera with Auto Framing
The white BRC-AM7 4K60 PTZ Camera with AI Auto-Framing from Sony combines a 1.0" type Exmor RS image sensor with approximately 14.0 million effective pixels and the latest BIONZ XR image processing engine to produce high resolution with low noise and textures and materials that are rendered with lifelike accuracy.
Built-In AI PTZ Auto Framing
This PTZ camera incorporates advanced AI analytics that enable subjects to be accurately tracked with smooth, natural-looking framing, making it easy to produce high-quality content. AI analytics uses detailed human pose, head, face, clothing, and other data to recognize human subjects with high precision. This can be used to automatically control pan, tilt, and zoom to follow an athlete at a sports event, etc. PTZ auto-framing is smooth and natural-looking, making it possible to work with a smaller camera crew.
Outstanding Subject Tracking
  • The latest Exmor RS image sensor and BIONZ XR image-processing engine work in unison to produce outstanding subject detection precision and speed for significantly improved tracking performance. The image sensor has focal plane phase-detection AF in the imaging area, easily focusing on fast-moving subjects with extraordinary speed and precision over a wide area.
  • PTZ Auto Framing works with this newly adopted AF system to dramatically improve overall AF tracking performance. A performer who is actively moving around on stage can be reliably followed while precise focus is maintained, for example. With this capability, a multicamera system can be set up to follow individual performers without requiring a correspondingly large camera crew
Integrated 24-480mm Lens
A newly developed built-in lens features a 20x optical zoom with a 35mm equivalent 24-480mm range. In addition, Sony's advanced Clear Image Zoom offers 30x zoom (720mm) in UHD 4K and 40x zoom (940mm) in 1080p. This offers an extraordinary range that can easily capture a subject in various situations.
Improved Imaging Performance & Interoperability
A 20x optical zoom range and 1.5 and 2x Clear Image Zoom enable the BRC-AM7 to capture images, covering everything from wide angles to close-ups, while delivering a high-quality UHD 4K60p output. The incorporation of ITU709/709tone, S-Cinetone, and S-Log3 support provides improved interoperability with existing Sony camera systems.
Seamless Integration with Sony Systems
The incorporation of ITU709/709tone, S-Cinetone, and S-Log3 support provides improved interoperability with existing Sony cameras and compatibility with S700PTP, free-d, and additional protocols offers broad system connectivity. The BRC-AM7 is the smallest and lightest camera of its type, making it unobtrusive and easy to install just about anywhere, even in multicamera setups.
Broad Connectivity
  • In addition to the 12G-SDI primary output, 3G-SDI is provided for monitoring. The BRC-AM7 offers a variety of video output options including HDMI and an optical-fiber 12G-SDI available via an SFP slot.
  • Audio input can be connected via a pair of 3-pin XLR connectors or a 3.5mm stereo jack, providing plug-in compatibility.
Built-In Variable ND Filter
The built-in electronic variable ND (neutral density) filter enables seamless variation from 1/4 to 1/128 ND, with an auto exposure mode automatically maintaining optimum exposure through lighting variations. Ideal exposure can be maintained when stage lighting changes, for example, without having to adjust iris, shutter, or gain. It also enables you to obtain optimum exposure without affecting depth of field in the widest possible range of lighting situations.
Power Options
  • Power can be supplied via a standard 4-pin XLR connector like that on the Sony AC-DN10A or the Wooden Camera 231000 power supply.
  • Use a PoE++ network connection without the need for additional wiring in environments where a power infrastructure is not available.
  • Please note that the BRC-AM7 does not come with a power supply.

Sony BRC-AM7 Reviews

Stunning

This new model is fantastic! Running at 1080p it gives you 40x. Holds a waist up shot at 130' with some zoom still left in the tank. The movement is impeccable and also has adjustability for braking/easing when changing pan direction manually. The auto tracking/focus is superb with a little room for improvement as new firmware gets released. My only complaint is that iris and white balance are not saved with controller presets at this time. Awesome camera by Sony.

The Sony BRC AM7, I know their is many that will ask why this PTZ and not the FR7. I have to say, Lens lens lens. I have a FR7 and won't be using it as much as this PTZ. An all in one PTZ with lens to boot. Sure FR7 has the image quality advantage over the AM7, but the quality is up there and considering the lens reach it is a no brainer for a lot of use. I do wish it had an image stabilized lens, at least for me. Sometimes when used outside the wind or vibrations can be a problem, since this is a telephoto zoom lens, not everything is vibration free even inside, I've been in places where the wooden floor or wall shakes because of people. Also since the camera has a variable ND why not a lens hood, the whole base plate is thin sheet metal and is flexable, so mounting it where the wind can hit the camera makes the vibrations visible. It is well suited for many uses, and fast. I haven't really used the AI feature, just some testing.

Do these cameras output tracking data? May I integrate with motion tracking 3rd party applications?
Asked by: Ari
Yes, The Sony BRC-AM7 is a free-d compliant camera. Tracking information can be output (pan, tilt, zoom, focus, iris) which allows the camera’s position in 3DCG space to be output so that its motion can be replicated in virtual VR/AR systems.

Can you recommend a PoE++ switch/injector that would be compatible with 4 of these cameras? Power consumption 71.3 W can't find.

The TRENDnet TPE-319GI 10G PoE++ Injector, BH #TRTPE319GI, would be a good option for a compatible PoE++ injector for the Sony BRC-AM7 4K60 PTZ Camera with AI Auto-Framing (Black).

What power supply is avalable? I would not have purchase this unit if I had thought it wouldn't come with a power supply.
Asked by: Kevin
You can not record video with POE ++, so its not most likely to be used. Thanks, I took the risk and ordered a power supply before this question was answered. I wish Sony had made it clear to the best option on power, why would anybody use POE++ on $12,000 PTZ without the option to record video inside the camera since they can.
