AstrHori A27C Reviews

Good Idea, Poor Execution

The rail and main slider are perfect- straight as can be, tight tolerances but everything moves extremely smooth, even with 8lb/3.6kg on it. The quick release and clamp are solid and true. But the selling point is the micrometer...and that's where it falls short. The tolerances on this part of the slider are much looser and the micrometer only applies force on one side of the slider. This causes the entire mount to rotate when using the micrometer- clockwise when moving towards the subject and counter-clockwise when moving back. Even when the lock screw is set, adjusting the micrometer still moves the other side. This makes photo stacking much more difficult.

quality construction

Very impressed by the quality of construction and materials. It has feet for tabletop use but the feet are removable, which is a really thoughtful feature. I used it right very easily mounting it on my tripod. The camera mount has a slider and a knob you turn to make the camera very secure especially when angled downward on the tripod.

This question is for the reviewer 'BK': Could you please explain your second paragraph more fully, especially this sentence... "This causes the entire mount to rotate when using the micrometer- clockwise when moving towards the subject and counter-clockwise when moving back." Thanks! (B&H requires a)?
