Ideal for a wide range of photo and video applications including landscapes, portraits, street photography, architecture, and events, the 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens from Sigma is a small, light, and bright standard zoom for crop-sensor mirrorless cameras. Offered here with a Canon RF-mount, this lens provides a versatile full-frame equivalent zoom range of 29-80 and a wide constant aperture of f/2.8 throughout the entire zoom range. An ultimate workhorse, the lens features a minimum focusing distance of just 4.8", enabling it to be used for macro-style close-up photography, and the lens is also outfitted with a rounded seven-blade diaphragm for a pleasing bokeh quality.

Standard zoom lens is designed for APS-C-format Canon RF-mount cameras and provides a 35mm equivalent focal length range of 29-80mm.
Constant f/2.8 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in low-light conditions and provides greater control over the focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques.
Three high-precision glass-molded aspherical elements are used to help limit distortion and spherical aberrations and contribute to greater overall sharpness and accurate rendering.
Special Low Dispersion (SLD) element reduces chromatic aberrations and color fringing.
Super Multi-Layer Coating minimizes flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
In-camera aberration correction further eliminates optical imperfections such as distortion and vignetting.
Stepping motor with nearly silent autofocus that makes it perfectly suited to a range of photographic applications, including shooting in quiet environments, recording videos, and capturing fast-moving subjects.
Minimum focusing distance of 4.8" and a 1:2.8 maximum magnification ratio benefits working with close-up subjects.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Reviews

The best lens I didn't know I needed

I picked up the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary after months of deliberating between lenses, and I'm genuinely glad I stopped overthinking it. This thing punches so far above its price point that it's almost embarrassing for the competition. The 18-50mm range covers a lot of real-world shooting scenarios, wide enough for environmental shots, long enough to pull in tighter on a face or detail. For events, portraits, or everyday carry, it just works. I've used it in everything from bright outdoor settings to dimly lit indoor spaces, and the f/2.8 keeps the ISO where I need it. If you shoot Sony E-mount or Fuji X and you want a versatile walkaround zoom that won't weigh you down or drain your wallet, just get this lens. You won't regret it.

I was not sure about getting this one, I have a A6700 that came with the 16-50 sony kit lens and all the reviews of the Sigma stated it was so much clearer, brighter and sharper - they were right, it is lightweight, sharp photos and fast focus. Glad I did the upgrade.

The Canon RF mount - it states for crop sensor. Could you use this on a full frame, ie R6?
Asked by: Joyce
The Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Canon RF is designed for Canon mirrorless cameras with an APS-C sensor. You can connect the lens to a full-frame mirrorless camera such as the Canon EOS R6 Mark II Mirrorless Camera. However, the camera will automatically activate its crop mode and drop the megapixels count to 9.3MP.

Will it be workable on a Canon EOS R5 or R5 mini?
Asked by: Kenda
The Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Canon RF is a crop sensor lens. It can be used on the Canon R5 but it would be recommended only for use in crop mode which lowers the resolution down to about 16MP. If you do not set the camera to crop mode, the image would likely be vignetted especially in the wider range.

Will this be a true 18-50mm on a Canon R50V?
Asked by: Trevor
All lenses on the Canon R50v will be about 1.6x longer as compared to using it on a full frame camera. Therefore, the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Canon RF would be a 29-80mm (35mm Equivalent) lens.
