Fragile—DO NOT BUY THIS

Yikes. I would give anything to go back in time and not buy this lens. Don’t get me wrong—it’s gorgeous—IF it works. However, after owning it for barely six months, with no warning signs, the focus tab fell off in the middle of a shoot. This left the lens locked in infinity mode. I then had to ship it to one of the VERY FEW photo repair places that actually repairs Thypoch in the United States. But those places still don’t seem to know what they’re doing. The job was quoted for a week, but took a month. The repair place cited difficulty communicating with Thypoch to get the parts as the delay. Then when I received it back, the lens was unusable completely out of focus when the rangefinder patch is aligned. In response Thypoch sent me an email suggesting I fix the lens myself. Voightlander might cost a bit more upfront, but save yourself the headache and get one of those instead

I own both Thypoch 50mm and 28mm simera f/1.4 lenses. At first, I was hesitant to get the Thypoch simera 35mm f/1.4 because the review done by Christopher Frost indicated that the lens is just somewhat below average based on the version with the infinity lock. However, I've also read reviews from other users who gave this lens very good rating. My guess is that they might have upgraded the optics on the version without the infinity lock. Anyhow, I took the gamble and it pays off. This lens is sharp at wide open, good bokeh, just like the Thypoch simera 28mm f/1.4 counterpart. Although, purple fringing can be visible at certain extreme highlight situations, from the perspective of value and performance, this is a very good lens.

The Thypoch Simera 35mm f/1.4 Lens can be used with a 49-52mm step up ring but only without using the included lens hood.

Does this work with the Nikons focus confirmation?

No, the Thypoch Simera 35mm f/1.4 Lens (Nikon Z, Silver) will not confirm focus on the Nikon Z-mount cameras. There is no electronic communication between this lens and the camera. However, you will be able to use the manual focus assist operation, such as peaking, in the camera.

According to the manufacturer, the Thypoch Simera 35mm f/1.4 Lens (silver) is not painted.

Does this work the Nikon ZF’s manual focus subject detection?

Yes, the Thypoch Simera 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Nikon Z dos work the Nikon ZF's manual focus detection. While the subject detection works, it will not give you focus confirmation since the lens lacks pins to communicate with the camera. It will only punch in to the subject for manual focus magnification/assist.

The Thypoch Simera 35mm f/1.4 Lens (Nikon Z, Black) has an all-metal lens body. This lens is not weather sealed.

If I change the aperture via lens ring will this data translate on the display or do I have to change aperture on camera too?

Because there are no electronics in the Thypoch Simera 35mm f/1.4 Lens (Nikon Z, Black) lens, the camera will not save the aperture in the EXIF data.
