PORTKEYS HS8 Overview

View your video capture with 3D LUT output using the HS8 8" 3G-SDI 4K HDMI/3G-SDI High-Bright Monitor with 3D LUT Support from PORTKEYS. This monitor features support for up to DCI 4K24 video, 1920 x 1200 resolution, 10-bit color, and 3D LUT output on both the 4K HDMI and 3G/HD/SD-SDI outputs. Its 1100 cd/m² brightness is high enough for exterior viewing, and the wide viewing angles of 178° make it easy for multiple crew members to watch the footage simultaneously. The rear of the monitor sports a detachable cover for a video transmitter and dual Sony L-series/NP-F battery plates.

Iffy UI, but great for the price

It's not a SmallHD or whatever, but it's perfectly decent. The controls are weird and to remember when you haven't used it for a while. I got good results from turning it on next to a known monitor and tweaking the settings until they were similar. I wouldn't call it perfectly accurate or anything, but it doesn't look bad and I don't feel bad handing it to a client to view.

Portrays really pack in a bunch of features in their monitors. It's hard not to like it because you can tell they do their best to really make it as good as possible in that price range. However, even though most people won't be able to tell, but myself having used all kinds of monitors, it's not hard to notice how the display quality is sub par. It's not as crisp as a SmallHD even though it boasts the same 1920x1080 resolution, and you can see the difference between 8-bit and 10-bit panels whenever there's a regular gradient in the shot. Not dealbreakers, but something to take into consideration because once you see it, you can't unsee it. I bought this to pair it with a DJI SDR RX for directors, so unless they can notice anything about the panel (they usually don't), it's unlikely to be a problem. The fact that it's such a compact Director's Monitor set up, makes up for anything the panel lacks.

Can I plug in a signal via HDMI and another camera signal via SDI and toggle between each shot via the monitors button?

If connected to sources via both HDMI and SDI on the PORTKEYS HS8 8" 3G-SDI 4K HDMI/3G-SDI High-Bright Monitor with 3D LUT Support, to switch between sources would require going into the Input menu in order to change the selected input for display.

The PORTKEYS HS8 8" 3G-SDI 4K HDMI/3G-SDI High-Bright Monitor with 3D LUT Support has both HDMI and SDI connections. HDMI, as a rule, has latency compared to SDI, so use SDI for the least latency.
