Uncaged Ergonomics KT4 Reviews

Sturdy, but has packaging and a design issue

First the bad. -It was shipped in a thin cardboard box that left little room for padding, with basic, poorly wrapped bubble wrap, and minimally taped. The package arrive torn open on one end and one of the rivets was sheared. This would not have happened if packaged correctly for shipping. I ended up disassembling it and putting a low profile screw in to replace the sheared rivet. It took quit a bit of work as the screw had to be filed to fit the small space. Returning is a waste of money considering the original cost. -The surface has these protrusions on the ends which lessens the surface area for mouse usage, so the usable measurements are not accurate. I removed this protrusion which happens to hold the surface to the rails. Then I recessed the surface and had to implement some spacers to keep a tight fit. I'm fortunate enough to have the skills to transform a subpar product into something decent. -The angle feature is a neat idea, but the tightness is not adjustable. I hope it doesn't loosen up over time, or else I might find myself using the drill motor again. It stays pretty well, but easy enough to knock off adjustment at a medium press. This is minor. -No pads for the area that clamps onto the desk... or they were missing due to the package being torn open. Either way, bad. Now the good- -It's quite sturdy. In fact, probably one of the most sturdy I've used, but still has a little bounce if anger typing, but it's minor. This is the primary reason I decided to apply my own fixes. -The three way height adjustment is nice, and a lot more stable than I anticipated. -Paradoxically, the tilt adjustment protects you from breaking it if you happen to stand up quickly, as it provides an impact buffer. Would I buy it again? Probably, considering anything decent cost a good chunk of money. An alternate way of fixing the protrusion would be to punch a hole in a mouse pad.

Good product, terrible packaging

Good, sturdy keyboard tray. Much more stable than I expected, tbh. The tilt mechanism is nice, but it doesn't have enough resistance. So when I tilt it away from me and then rest my palms on the front, it slowly moves back to neutral. Which doesn't bother me all that much, just something to be aware. The packaging of this thing is terrible, though. Its box fell apart inside the shipping box, so my tray has some scuffs. Not enough to be worth sending back, but a little annoying. This thing is fairly heavy and needs a stronger box IMHO. But overall a good product at a reasonable price.

Can this be used on a curved desk?
Asked by: mary
The Uncaged Ergonomics KT4 Clamp-On Under-Desk Keyboard Tray (Black) cannot be used with a curved desk, since the clamp assembly is fixed into position and cannot be adjusted sideways to fit a curved surface.
