After hearing about how the GR series of cameras may be susceptible to dust getting into the camera, I wanted more protection. The little interleaving covers for the lens seemed at risk for damage too. This lens cap takes care of these issues. Being metal, that means the cap won't shatter or break if I accidentally drop it on a hard surface. The inside of the cap has felt on it. This helps seal the cap onto the lens without difficulty. The felt, while providing enough friction to keep the cap on the lens, is also slippery enough that the cap will pop off if you forget to remove the cap before pressing the power button. I've done this a few times. If the cap was held on very tightly, that would cause the motor to jam when the lens extends out upon power-up. The cap does a little bulk to the camera, but I think it's worth the protection it offers.
This cap is a heavy and thick piece of machine metal. It overwhelms the little camera. I think a light but strong piece of PVC would've done the job better.
