Manfrotto Befree GT Pro Carbon Fiber Reviews
Great travel tripod
I have been using Manfrotto tripods for over 25 years and have always been happy with them but the ones that I have do not collapse small enough to go into my carry on luggage when traveling. This one does and it still gives me the support I need for my camera and lens.
Sturdier construction then BeFree Advance CF, all mate black
I spent extra to get the BeFree GT Pro CF versus the BeFree Advance, primary reason being the leg sections larger circumference. Go to Manfrotto website, click Tech spec Full list to compare differences. GT Pro is only marginally longer in length. I bought the MH494 ball head separately. Note , I also purchased MSQ6T Arca Swiss QR adapter clamp separately, because you can not mount a telephoto lens foot on factory Arca Swiss clamp. The total weight came to 3lbs 4 oz. I'm 5'10 I do have to raise the center section 7 3/4 up to get viewfinder at eye level, with two inches of further upward travel available. I'm aware of issue with extended center column with slow shutter speeds, will use remote or shutter delay. My primary tripod is older Manfrotto 055CXPro3 CF with Acratech Long Lens head and leveling base, it's 35 1/2 tall and weight 5lbs 8oz, versus GT Pro at just under 17 long and 3lbs 4oz. Folded BeFree GT Pro fits 26L daypack water bottle holder sleeve without issue. I'm now a fan of leg sections twist lock, with practice I can now release all three with one twist. Center column lock takes more turning to fully lock compared to leg section twist lock, the center column is triangular in shape, it has minimal play. I did consider the PD CF and other traveler sized tripods, but I'm very happy with the GT Pro CF.
