This drive is equipped with 6TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

I purchased this to back up my MAC laptop using time machine. My laptop has 1TB memory and I have just about all of it taken up. This size is needed to back up my entire computer. ( A 2 TB is too small. ) It took around 2 days for the first initial back up.

The 5TB drive is plenty to use for backing up my 1TB fSSD and my 4TB spinning drive. The price was reasonable and it arrived in good time.

Moving my documents to the drive does that free up disk space?

Copying your documents to the WD 5TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive (Blue), B&H # WEBFTM0050BB, will free up disk space on the source disk as long as you delete the documents from the source disk once the transfer has completed and you are 100% sure that everything was copied successfully.

Thank you Moe. You need to fix the specs listing if they are truly the same. Also the photos. If you look closely you will notice a different thickness on the 2TB and 5TB.
