I already knew that I would love the WD 1 T external drive, because I have had one for years. I needed a second one to use for Time Machine backup of my MacBook, and in shopping around, I first tried to buy from another vendor. However, I got a notice from that vendor that my shipment would be delayed by an unacceptable amount of time. Continuing research, I found this company and the price including shipping costs was comparable to other vendors, but this would be available a little sooner. Shopping, ordering and receiving all went as planned and I could not be happier to be a new customer. Thanks so much!

Slow as a dog...

Forget the interface - the read-write spead is limited by the VERY slow HD. This drive is not useful other than for long-term backups. It is not useful for photo/video backup while traveling. I bought a SanDisk - Extreme Portable 4TB External USB-C NVMe SSD - Black for $450. No comparison (of course). The WD 5TB My Passport USB 3.2 Gen 1 External Hard Drive typically operates at a rotational speed of 5400 RPM, delivering claimed real-world sequential read and write speeds between 120 MB/s and 140 MB/s with large files, but it transfers at speeds less than 100MB/s with small files. While it has a 5Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface, the speed is limited by the internal magnetic platter mechanism. If you need image / video b/u while on the go, get a SSD-based drive like the SanDisk. If you want a backup drive for your laptop, this is likely ok - if you've got the time.

Does this come with a USB-A to USB-C adapter? One reviewer said it does, but it's not listed in the 'In The Box' section.

The WD 6TB My Passport USB 3.2 Gen 1 External Hard Drive (Red) comes with a Micro-USB to USB Type-A Cable. A USB-C adapter is not included, but one such as B&H # PEUSB323CA06 would be recommended.

Can this be used to backup multiple PC computers, or do I need a separate drive for each machine? I have 2 PCs I want to backup.

The WD 2TB My Passport USB 3.2 Gen 1 External Hard Drive can be partitioned to make complete system backups for multiple machines, but it might be cumbersome to manage storage capacity that way. This drive would be great though to back up important files from multiple computers.

The description states that it is "mac compatible with reformatting." Will it work with my late 2015 i-mac using Sierra OS 10.12.6?

I know that MacOS can read NTFS drives, but not sure you'd be able to write. Your best bet would be to format as ExFat which is read/write for both Windows and Mac for copying files back and forth. You would need to format as HFS+ to use as a Time Machine backup drive.

The WD 4TB My Passport USB 3.2 Gen 1 External Hard Drive (Sky) comes out of the box preformatted in NTFS, which is only compatible with Windows; however, it can be reformatted for Mac compatibility with Apple Silicon Macs through MacOS's Disk Utility.
