Photek S-4023-4 reviews

Locking Background Crossbar is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple effective design I have another one of these but needed a new one for an upcoming event. It's a great design, simple and effective. Had my previous one for years and is still as good as the day I bought it. The new one has a slight problem though. The insert of one of the bars was over machined and is much, much smaller than the opening of the next bar. This means there's a slight sag, and I think over time, that bit of play is going to open up the shape of the bar it attaches to. I fixed it with tape to pad out the fitting but think this is something that could be better quality checked.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Surprised By All The Good Reviews This might the best in its category and thus the good reviews. Nonetheless, I was really disappointed with this $60 rod. I thought I was purchasing a well machined product but this is nowhere near that. The joints are very sloppy. As others have pointed out, to "lock" the joints you need to align the arrows on each section. They don't lock at all. They spin freely. They wobble. They are sloppy joints. The rod deflects without and weight on it. I have not yet tried it with my muslin backdrop. I may have to keep it for lack of a better solution. I spent $60 on a 12' rod because I thought it would be sturdy and not deflect. I am very disappointed in this product. If I find something better I will post it here.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid I purchased this to hold backdrops supported by lightstands I own. I hated the backdrop kit that I purchased and returned. The stands were abysmal. I travel for all my shoots, and need solid gear. I was actually impressed with how well the poles fit together. In the kit I ordered, they slid around and sagged, but these don't sag. It's funny, they're exactly the same design, many of the lower end manufacturers seem to fabricate their gear from the same place, you're just paying for a logo difference. But this, was definitely tight. Glad to have it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice! Better than expected I really like this background pole system, and I've used quite a few. The 4 pieces completely separate which I prefer to ones that telescope out and use increasingly smaller diameter nested tubes. The result of the consistent diameter design is a slightly stiffer (and presumably stronger) support pole, although you still get sag over a 12' span, but that's to be expected given the overall cost and weight. Overall, I'm very happy and will be purchasing another so I can have side-by-side seamless setups with different colors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple and Effective I have used this brand of background crossbar for the last 12 years. It is far better than other types in that the sections are easy to assemble, lock in position with a twist and break down into sections about 3 feet 4 inches. Very easy to carry in bag. I use two sets for large groups (10x24 foot backgrounds). You need 3 light stands for a 24 foot wide setup. Great value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy Pole It's still new. And I have only tested it. Currently I have had it up for 48 hours with a 12 foot backdrop on it. The roll is very heavy! There is no sag in the pole at all. My stands have 5/8 studs. So I purchased a 5/8 to a 1/2 stud. The 1/2 inch stud is just a hair (say 1/32 to big) to fit into the hole on the pole so I just used a hand file to open up the hole to fit the 1/2 stud. Worked liked a charm and everything is very solid. Very happy thus far. Also, I like that it breaks down into small easy to transport segments.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not what I expected The crossbar is sturdy even with 4 sections attached together. However, each section does not lock together in a sense that it is snug and tight. Each section spins freely and has arrows at each ends that has to be aligned or else the bars will pull out. Each of these connections must be taped together to be secured (which could be an inconvenience when you are in a hurry to setup). The holes that are supposed to mount onto the lightstand is too small and had to be enlarged. Other than that, it is a good product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy, easy to use This is stronger than the crossbar I had been using, which sagged in the middle. Easy to put together and take apart.
