Really Effective And Using In Tandem With My Falcam Treeroot Tripod

Great compact head with well designed features

I've been searching for a good reverse ball head and think I've settled on this one. I spent two weeks in Arizona shooting with it and love it. While I'd not pigeon hole it as only a travel head, it's compact size and light weight make it a great for travel. I especially like the small QR plate and was very happy to find that my Peak Design standard plate used with my Capture Camera Clip fits this mount perfectly (see photo of head with PD plate). Sadly, the Falcam F38 QR plate is just a bit too thick to work on my Capture Clip. That is too bad because the Falcam plate has a removable lip to align with the front or back of your camera base to prevent the plate from turning, which is very helpful. (See photo of Falcam and PD QR plates.) The release lever for the QR works very well and I had no problem with mounting, unmounting, or accidentally bumping the release. The ball tension dial and the pan lock knob are both well designed and easy to use in addition to being very compact yet easy to identify by hand while looking through the viewfinder. The lock screw on the base is easier to access than most since it's accessible from the top of the head without having to use one on the bottom of the center column platform, which typically has to be accessed by removing the center column. I had previously tried the Platyball reverse ball head, which is not a bad head, but it is much bulkier and can make for a more top-heavy tripod. While it does offer some innovative features, I find the Falcam to be overall a much better head. The leveling feature on the Platyball is nice, if a bit gadgety, but I've had no problem leveling the Falcam head between using it's conventional bubble level and my camera's built-in level indicator. Like most ball heads, it functions best when shooting in landscape orientation, but I found that when I needed to shoot in portrait (without an L bracket) the panning function became my vertical tilt control, allowing me to easily adjust my shooting angle without unlocking the ball. Yes, this head's QR system is a bit limiting when it comes to Arca Swiss plat compatibility, but for me it has worked out well since I prefer a small, think plate and use my PeakDesign plates with it. That said, be aware of the limitation and check all your plates out with it right away to figure out if it's going to be a problem for you.

Is Falcam F38B4303 ball head compatible with SmallRig L-bracket for Canon EOS R5?
Asked by: Rob
The Falcam 320P Inverted Ball Head with F38 Pro Quick Release uses a lever to secure the plate or bracket. A lever does not allow the same level of compatibility with a large number of third-party plates and brackets like a knob would. A third-party plate or bracket is often not completely locked on and secure with a lever. Therefore, we only recommend using a lever head with the plates or brackets specifically made for that head. We do not recommend using a SmallRig L-bracket with the Falcam 320P Inverted Ball Head with F38 Pro Quick Release.
