STM Autofocusing Motor
Driving the RF-S 7.8mm f/4 STM Dual VR lens is a gear-type stepping motor (STM) with a dual-lens autofocus mechanism, which drives the left and right lenses quickly, quietly, and in unison. This makes autofocus as simple to operate as it is with an ordinary lens. Available for both photo and video, the electronic focusing/control ring and the left-right focus difference adjustment switch allow the option to control focus on both lenses or the left lens only. The lens is compatible with Canon's Dual Pixel CMOS AF autofocus system, and full-time manual focus is also supported.
Design and Construction
The lens creates content in Spatial, 3D 180°, and 3D formats with a straight path optical system that features two ultra-low dispersion elements to suppress chromatic aberrations. With nine total elements in five groups, the lens sports Canon's Super Spectra Coating to reduce ghosting and flare. The lens supports light-modifying filters with a 58mm front thread, and the 5.9" minimum focusing distance means your whole world is rendered sharply. The lens is compact and lightweight, extending only 1.6" from the camera and weighing only 4.6 oz.

The Canon RF-S 7.8mm f/4 STM Dual Lens (Canon RF) is only compatible with the Canon R7, according to Canon, because of the R7's "high-speed autofocus and high-resolution image sensor".

Given that the 4K resolution is lower here than on something like the C70 (which does 4K DCI), why aren’t they compatible?
Asked by: Eric
The Canon RF-S 7.8mm f/4 STM Dual Lens (Canon RF) is currently only compatible with the R7 due to the processing software needed for the dual lens, plus the megapixel count in the R7 is significantly higher than that of the C70.

The Canon RF-S 7.8mm f/4 STM Dual Lens (Canon RF) is a crop sensor lens. It will fit on a full-frame camera, such as the R5C, but the R5C cannot process the dual-lens view. They make this dual lens 5.2mm for the R5C: https://bhpho.to/2YsYpun.
