Terrific Budget Cinema Lenses

I purchased the entire five lens set for MFT and I could not be happier. They are well built, consistent in handling quality and are a dream to use. Even wide open the images are sharp. Many people have tested these lenses wide open on focus charts and have indicated soft corners. Well, I don't video focus charts. I video movement and action and the images look terrific when used across the entire range of codecs and resolutions with my Panasonic Lumix GH6, Gh7, and G9 II cameras. The colors look great and these lenses give a very filmic quality. I admit, 100%, I like this lens set better than the Rokinon DS, DSX line and Mitakon Zhongyi lenses.

This is my first cine lens (I am learning videography after 20+ years as a still photographer.) It’s also the fastest lens I’ve ever used, narrowly beating out my beloved Canon 50mm f1.4. Buildwise, it’s a beautiful piece of equipment IMO. I got the standard black finish. The markings are clear and solid, and the finish is even and smooth. The esthetics are good, and I like the protective lip at the end of the barrel though it gets in the way of filters sometimes. It’s got presence but doesn’t totally overbalance my Canon R7. Anything smaller and you start to get tail-wags-dog syndrome, though. On my R50 the camera looks and feels like an afterthought. I didn’t like that you can’t see the lens settings from overhead although at least you can from either side. As expected, the lens is a low-light powerhouse, with the T1.2 sucking light like a vampire wide open. It was really fun to be able to smoothly roll through the clickless aperture and watch the exposure change in real time. I wish the aperture were a little less tightly geared, though, as it moves very quickly through the range. The focus ring has a much broader gearing and is responsive and smooth. The video is soft and dreamy until at least T2, which I actually like, but this is not the sharpest lens wide open, so be warned. Don’t forget to set your camera appropriately including “release shutter with no lens,” and manual focal length setting as this lens has no electronics whatsoever and my Canon R-Series cameras can’t even tell if it’s mounted much less what it’s set to. It does play nice with my DJI RS gimbal with focus motor. I think I’ll have a lot of fun with this lens and it was very much worth the price in my opinion.

Yes, even though the Sirui Night Walker 16mm T1.2 S35 Cine Lens (Leica L, Gunmetal Gray) will fit on a full-frame L-mount body, it was designed for Super35/APS-C sensor cameras. Therefore, the camera will need to be set to a Super35/APS-C crop mode to compensate for the smaller image circle.

On an MFT camera, will the 16mm focal length give the equivalent field of view as a 32mm FF lens on FF sensor? Thanks.

Yes, on a Micro Four Thirds camera, the Sirui Night Walker 16mm T1.2 S35 Cine Lens (Micro Four Thirds, Gunmetal Gray) gives roughly the same field of view as a 32mm lens on full-frame.

Confused by an answer to one of the questions. This is a 16mm lens for S35. Why would it look like a 24mm on a S35 sensor?

The 16mm focal length of the Sirui Night Walker 16mm T1.2 S35 Cine Lens (Sony E, Black) is a constant distance that is the same as a 16mm full-frame lens. That 16mm full-frame lens would have the same framing as a Super35 16mm lens on a Super35 sensor, but the framing would be different on a full-frame sensor, so we use a full frame equivalent in order to estimate what lens the framing would be equivalent to on a cropped sensor.
