pros: we use it to stream movies and (recently) soccer. it has a good picture even in the daytime. our older projector needed the room quite dark. plus, compared to that one, this one runs super quiet. and after some grunting and googling, we figured out the settings. we have it hooked up to our apple tv, but it wants a newer apple TV for all the digital goodness i don't fully grok. still, though, it has a setting for the older format, so i don't hold any of those issues against it. (to be less vague about the issue: it would suddenly change the color in the middle of a scene -- you wouldn't notice it unless you saw it happene, but it happened kind of often before we fixed the settings.) finally, in addition to being quiet, it's SMALL. compared to our old projector it's kind of magical; that one was more like a microwave oven, noisy and heavy.
cons: even though we measured everything we can't get it to throw on our screen using our former setup. we had to move it closer (otherwise the throw was too big for our screen). we checked our math again but who knows. good news is that, because it's so small, we just set it up on the coffee table each time we're ready to use it; it isn't fussy. true, the fact we set it up new each time means we have to fiddle with all the orientations. but let that be the problem. we are enjoying our movies and our soccer.
Excellent 4k Projector

I’ve spent the last few months setting up a music/media area in my basement. Initially, I had one of those cheap, no-name Amazon projectors mounted, and honestly, it wasn’t great. I never found myself wanting to watch anything on the big screen, especially with my 4K TV upstairs. I first went the more budget-friendly route and bought the 1080p BenQ 2060. It looked good, but the picture felt a bit “soft,” which I attributed to the pixel count. I ended up returning it and purchasing the TK710 instead.
The TK710 is mounted on the ceiling about 8 feet away from my 100” screen, and the seating position is about 15.5 feet from the screen. As soon as I turned it on, the difference was obvious. The image is bright, the colors are vibrant right out of the box, and the picture is crisp and sharp. I’ve watched various movies and TV shows so far, and while I’m still tweaking my preferences for both HDR and SDR content, it’s been a joy to watch.
Once I had the basics set up, I decided to plug in the PS5 and bought Spider-Man 2. I’ve never played a game on a projector before, and it was definitely an experience. I’ve always loved the Spider-Man games, and being able to swing through New York was a blast. However, experiencing it on a 4K, 100” screen completely changed things—I don’t think I can go back to a regular TV now. It really felt like I was Spider-Man.
I’m looking forward to testing out more games and continuing to fine-tune the projector for my space.

Can the optical zoom be used to REDUCE the size of the image?

The BenQ TK710 cannot reduce the image size beyond the minimum size specified by its throw ratio range using optical zoom. To achieve a smaller image size, the projector must be moved closer to the projection surface.
