With updated stabilization and high-torque motors with the option to add an AI tracking module, the Smooth 5S AI 3-Axis Smartphone Gimbal from Zhiyun-Tech helps you achieve ultra-smooth tracking in your next vlog. It features 360° rotation for an immersive Vortex Mode, among other tracking modes, that can be enhanced by the separately available AI tracker module. The gimbal can supports 5.3 to 10.6 oz loads and smartphones measuring 2 to 3.6" wide. The arms have a new clear design for easy adjustments and improved high-torque motors for smoother movements.

An integrated fill light on the tilt axis arm boasts a 650 lux peak output. Magnetic mounting points on either side of the smartphone clamp support the attachment of the AI tracker or magnetic fill lights. The control panel has been redesigned for more intuitive mode switching, fill light adjustment, among other parameters. The gimbal has Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity for compatibility with the ZY Cami and StaCam apps for even more creative control. A built-in 2600mAh battery can operate for 26 hours in standby mode and fully recharges in 2 hours via PD fast charging protocol.

The pan-follow mode is very nice for capturing smooth, steady tracking shots, while the vortex mode lets me experiment with creative, rotating angles that are tough to achieve handheld. The sturdy build quality gives a nice, solid feel, and I find the button layout really intuitive, making it easy to switch between features quickly. I like using the app’s timelapse feature and gesture controls when needed. I have also been using the gimbal with the phones native camera app. I’m using this gimbal with my Google Pixel 9 Pro XL phone and I have been very happy with it in the landscape and portrait mode. Fast easy balancing setup.

I've been using the Zhiyun Smooth 5S AI Gimbal with my iPhone 14 Pro Max, and it’s been a good choice for improving my video quality. Most importantly the stabilization is effective, giving me steady shots even while moving around and walking. Balancing the gimbal is straightforward. I also like that it’s easy to switch between landscape and portrait modes, so I can quickly adjust depending on what I’m shooting. The AI tracking does a nice job of keeping my subject in frame, which is really helpful. The AI tracker magnetically mounts to the gimbal in both the forward position and the selfie mode. I’ve been happy with the ZY Cami app as it has a bunch of features, easy to use, and still allows me to film in 4K 24p, 30p and 60p. I can still use the native iPhone camera app. The gesture control feature is actually fun to use and convenient. The built-in fill light is most useful for low-light situations if your subject is relatively close to the camera but will drain the gimbal battery faster. The gimbal battery life has been reliable. I’ve managed to get through longer shoots without needing to recharge. I wish this gimbal came with a carrying case or bag. For now I have been storing it in one of my camera bags as the gimbal is small enough to fit. Overall, it’s been a convenient tool for filming with my phone, and I’m glad I picked it up. I’ll will definitely be taking this gimbal on my next vacation. And in the next few months I will be upgrading to the latest iphone.

Yes, there is a way to connect a mic if you connect the DigitalFoto Solution Limited MINI L Bracket Handle with Cold Shoe Mounts for Smartphone/Camera Gimbal (B&H # DIMINIL) to the bottom of the Zhiyun Smooth 5S AI Pro 3-Axis Smartphone Gimbal handle, which has a female tripod screw connection. This DigitalFoto bracket has shoe mounting points that would allow you to attach a microphone.

Does anyone know if this would work with something like the Insta360 Ace Pro action cameras?

The Zhiyun Smooth 5S AI Pro 3-Axis Smartphone Gimbal would not be able to be used with the Insta360 Ace Pro Action Camera. An alternative would be the Hohem iSteady MT2 3-Axis Smartphone and Camera Gimbal Stabilizer Kit, BH #HOISTDYMT2KT, which features a 3 prong mount for use with standard action mounts.
