Is this battery compatible with the R5 mark 1?
Asked by: Aaron
It works in my R5, which just came back from Canon service 2 weeks ago. I checked the firmware in the menu and it is 2.0.0. which was released March 26 2024. They probably updated the firmware while they had it in service

I think people aren't quite taking the time on this. I am holding an LP-E6P battery in my hands, and I also have the paperwork that came with the battery (I bought four extra batteries for the new R5 Mark II). I also have an LP-E6NH battery here too. I am not sure of the subtle differences between the LP-E6NH and the LP-E6P. The batteries are both marked as follows: Rated Voltage: 7.2V Battery Capacity: 2130mAh Both have a marking of 16 Wh (FWIW, 7.2V * 2.130 Hh = 15.34 Wh) I don't have charging specs for the older LP-E6NH (although on online search again came up with (almost) the same specs), but the paperwork with the LP-6EP states: Standard Charging Voltage: 8.4V, Standard Charging Current: 1200mA, Maximum Charging Voltage: 8.46 (to be clear, the web search I did for the E6NH said only 8.4V) Maximum Charging Current: 1300mA If you do a web search for "equivalent circuit" of a Lithium-Ion battery, you'll find that they have an ohmic resistance that is effectively a series resistance to the battery (call this R1). But there's also another resistance is series with the first, but with a capacitor in parallel with it (call these R2 and C1). R2 and C1 are part of the transient response of the battery. I'm guessing, but it's likely that the E6P has lower values for R2 and C1 which improve the battery's response to transients, and I'll bet the R5 Mark II (and other cameras that require the E6P) has higher dynamic loads that it puts on the battery, and thus the new battery. I hope this clears things up a little.

Can this battery be used with the Eos R5 C for 8k60 video recording?
Asked by: William
Yes, the Canon LP-E6P Lithium-Ion Battery will work on the R5 C once Canon releases a new firmware for the R5 C. However, there will be no benefit when using the Canon LP-E6P in an older camera.

Yes, the Canon LP-E6P Lithium-Ion Battery can be used in older Canon mirrorless, like the Canon EOS R6 Mirrorless Camera, but will require a camera firmware update to do so.

Will these be compatible with the BG-R10 battery ...

Will these be compatible with the BG-R10 battery grip on a R5, using two batteries? If so Can you mismatch with older LP-E6?
Asked by: Jacy
Canon informed us that the Canon LP-E6P Lithium-Ion Battery will work with the BG-R10 grip on the R5, but it will require a firmware update on the Canon R5. Before that firmware is released and the camera updated, the Canon LP-E6P Lithium-Ion Battery will not work in the R5 and will also not work in the BG-R10. I recommend waiting until the firmware is released to buy the Canon LP-E6P Lithium-Ion Battery. At this time, before the firmware has been released, we do not know if it will be possible to mismatch with older LP-E6 batteries.
