Super easy to install. Looks very minimal and professional, not gamery. Quick mount and release is so convenient, and the cable management is nice to have. Overall the bang for the buck for this monitor arm is unmatched. I think it can hold its own against arms that cost 3x as much.

Mounting fastens too tight for its own good

This set feels like very good value for money but it's not quite perfect because the included clamp mounting hardware is not fully thought-out. The two hex bolts will easily tighten down against the desk well beyond the optimal position because the bracket itself starts to give and bend (opening up the C-shape that the bracket should maintain) before the bolts feel like they are tight. I tightened the assembly while standing up using ordinary effort and the supplied hex wrench. I did not initially notice that my continued tightening was not getting the clamp any tighter but instead was just bending the bracket. The instructions should mention that you have to just decide to stop tightening the bolts when it feels tight enough, otherwise you'll start bending the bracket. That, or it should come with a smaller hex wrench that provides only enough leverage to tighten to the needed torque. Once I got it installed properly, the monitor arms worked quite well. No complaints there. I am a little worried though that the desk mounting might fail slowly because the bracket was bent.

if hung upside down, so that the base is mounted from above, and the arms go out from above, will it operate properly?

The MSI MAG MT201D Full-Motion Dual Monitor Desk Mount for 17 to 45" Displays is not designed to work properly if installed in any other way than the intended upright position.
