There is effectively no functional access for things like travel documents, etc. I would recommend it for those who travel by car to their destination vs. air. You would have to have a separate bag for the air travel portion - things like passports, phones, ear buds, etc, etc are not easily managed from the outside. Lots of room,,,, if you are hiking in the wilds. Urban/travel through airports not so much access.
I Have Had This Bag For Just About Six Months Now And Have Given It A Pretty Good Workout. And I Am In Love With It. It Has A Ton Of Storage Space So I Can Carry Not Just My Camera Gear But All That Other Stuff You Need To Have. Rain Gear, Lunch, Water, Etc. And The Overall Design Is Great. The Aluminum Frame Holds The Bags Shape, There Are Plenty Of Storage Pockets And Lots Of Access To Your Stuff Via External Entry Points. The Bag Is Highly Adjustable So It Is Very Comfortable To Wear For Extended Periods And Plenty Of Extra Straps On The Outside For Even More Gear. And This Pack Is Durable! I Am Based In The Desert Southwest And The Terrain (sand & Cactus) Is Hard On Equipment, But I Have Not Babied This Bag And It Still Looks Brand New. But To Be Fair There Are One Or Two Things I Do Not Like, Minor Points, But Here They Are. All This Durability And Functionality Comes At A Cost, This Bag Is A Bit On The Heavy Side. And There Are Almost Too Many 'thin' Compartments. I Do Not Use Or Care For The Laptop Sleeve And The Exterior Pouch On The Outside Back. That One Is A Bit Useless If You Utilize The Outside Rear Straps For Say A Tripod. But These Are Minor Points. Bottom Line Is I Am Very Happy With This Bag And Would Easily Give It A 9.5 Out Of Ten!
