Viltrox DC-X3 Overview

The lightweight DC-X3 6" Touchscreen HDMI/SDI Monitor from Viltrox lets you view your camera's image on a bright, sharp 6" display. The DC-X3 supports up to DCI/UHD 4K30 via the HDMI and 3G-SDI video input and can send the signal to other displays through HDMI and SDI loop-through outputs. This model features multiple image tools such as histogram and waveform, and its 2000 cd/m² brightness makes it suitable for indoor or outdoor use.

The DC-X3 features a 1920 x 1080 display that supports live view from your camera, and you can monitor the audio via its built-in speaker or 3.5mm headphone port. The SD card slot or the USB port can be used to upgrade the firmware or to add custom 3D LUT files to apply to your view. At the rear of the monitor, a built-in L-series battery plate enables you to power the monitor with an L-series battery, or you can power it with a separately available DC barrel or USB-C adapter. The camera mounts onto a cage, camera, or rig using the included shoe adapter mount, and a sun hood is available to protect the monitor from glare.

Second Monitor, Second Quality Issue...

Unfortunately, my experience with Viltrox has been disappointing. This was actually my second Viltrox monitor purchase. The first monitor arrived with loose components rattling around inside the unit, which immediately raised concerns about quality control. I decided to give the brand another chance. After only ONE shoot with the new monitor, the plastic corners on the included sun hood snapped. When I contacted customer support, I was told the damage was not covered under warranty and that no replacement would be provided. For me, the bigger issue isn't the broken sun hood, it's the lack of support behind the product. When a relatively new accessory fails under normal use, I would expect a company to stand behind its products and help its customers find a reasonable solution. The monitor itself may offer good features for the price, but reliability and customer service matter just as much. After two separate quality-related issues and an unsatisfactory warranty experience, unfortunately, I cannot recommend Viltrox. I'll be investing elsewhere in a different brand/monitor.

This monitor is hard to calibrate with our red komodo. But for the price is really not that big of a deal. The brightness is fenomenal, and the fact that you can adjust it just sliding your finger up and down on the screen is a winner. Also having different power options is great. Recommended if you're on a budget.

No, the Viltrox 6" Touchscreen HDMI/SDI On-Camera Monitor does not support HDMI to SDI conversion. It will only loop out the input signal it receives.

If the open-gate signal can be output in a compatible resolution and frame rate, such as a max DCI 4K30, then the Viltrox 6" Touchscreen HDMI/SDI On-Camera Monitor would be able to display it. It would not be able to display the full 6K open-gate resolution.
