The 4 x 5 Focus Hood by Intrepid Camera is designed for framing and focusing your 4 x 5 camera. It allows the user to replace the traditional dark cloth used with these systems. The focus hood fits easily in the back of the camera, replacing the ground glass frame and providing great protection for the ground glass. Intrepid Camera utilizes 3D printing for precision designs and to reduce light and reflections as much as possible.

It works decently but by no means can it beat a dark cloth in clarity of image. I chose convenience and have successfully worked a paid shoot but there were times where I could see reflections on the ground glass which obscured the image so you do have to be mindful of where you place the camera with the sun’s positioning in mind. I like that it protects the ground glass and it does stay open if you pinch the flaps outward. The magnet came loose but I easily glued it back. It’s light and closes flush. All in all, I consider this a handy accessory but still keep a cloth handy for just in case. I do wish it was cheaper, though…
