This active fiber optic HDMI reel is exactly what I needed for simplifying the setups I do at clubhouses and anywhere I use a projector for my wife's diva shows. I used to connect my Mac to a projector via HDBaseT ethernet, which requires a powered transmitter, receiver and Cat5e cable. It worked sporadically, which would leave me scrambling to change my station to run the show from a non-obtrusive 100' away to a place within 20' of the HDMI input. I never did figure out why it worked sometimes and failed other times, but a sound and lighting pro advised me to go optical fiber and he was right! My M3 MacBook Pro laptop has an HDMI output that gives the right amount of 5V power to this cable and now I have a reliable 164' connection. My only downside was having to unspool the entire length of the reel to switch the "Display" end of the cable with the "Source" end so I can keep the reel near my station and run the "Display" end to the House's HDMI input. WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY UNLESS YOU PLUG SOURCE INTO LAPTOP AND DISPLAY INTO PROJECTOR OR OTHER VIDEO DISPLAY. I also love the protective cups supplied for the HDMI connector ends.
