Profoto expands its line of softboxes with an all-in-one mount design that allows photographers to quickly shape their light. The 4' Octa Softbox sets up in seconds, offering an easy-to-use fold/unfold solution. Besides the benefit of speed, this octa softbox is made with a high-quality fabric and a reflective silver interior that maximizes your light source's output. It works great to wrap your subject in a flattering, evenly distributed soft light. The modifier has a convenient, integrated speed ring that suits all 100mm Profoto light heads. Profoto Octa Softbox Reviews
Poorly Designed For The Price
This Soft Box Drives Me Nuts. It Drives My Assistants Nuts Too. It Is A Massive Pain To Setup Because Profoto Designed The Sleeves That Hold The Interior Rods To A Depth Of About 2 Inches At The End Of The Soft Box Closest To The Diffusion. This Means Every Time You Put It Away, The Rods Will Inevitably Pop Out Of Those Sleeves. You Then Either Have To Reach Through The Box To Reinsert Them Or Open The Front Diffusion; They Never Go Back In Easily. Then, You Cross Your Fingers They Won't Pop Out Again Before You Get Them Sorted Into The Ring. For The Amount Of Money This Costs, You Would Imagine They Had Field Tested It A Few Times First. The Light Quality Itself Is Fine, No Better Or Worse Than Any Other Box.
Perfection
After owning a few other Profoto OCF softboxes in various other sizes, I've been wanting to add a larger octabox to the collection and saw that Profoto had just released the new line of softboxes with an integrated speed ring. After using this new softbox for almost a month, I'm really loving the integrated speed ring, which makes the setup and takedown process much quicker. I no longer have to deal with a separate speed ring and rods like I do with the OCF softboxes. This newer softbox design is also much sturdier than my OCF softboxes and it holds its shape better than my OCF softboxes. I also like the ability to swap the included 1-stop diffuser for a 0.5-stop or 1.5-stop diffuser, versus the permanent diffuser on the OCF softboxes. The way the optional grid attaches is also much improved compared to the OCF grids. Overall, their new line of softboxes with the integrated speed ring fixes just about all of the complaints I've had with the OCF softboxes. My only complaint is the price of the newer softboxes, and the optional 4' grid itself costing the same as some of the OCF softboxes I have. Definitely will be swapping some of my other OCF softboxes for the newer style.
