PORTKEYS BM7 II Reviews

Decent Monitor Horrible Support

We picked up this BM7IIDS for our RED Komodo X. 2200 nits is a nice bright monitor, but problems right out of the box and PortKeys customer support is delplorable. Touchscreen functionality does not integrate with RED Komodo X, so you have no camera controls via the touchscreen monitor. Which defeats the purpose of paying for a touchscreen monitor. PortKeys solution was to update the firmware. Seemingly simple enough solution unless you are running on Macs and we run a MacStudio M2 Ultra, and a new MacBook Pro m5. PortKeys only offers firmware updates for Windows not Macs, and ironically the firmware updates are MacBinary files. .Bin files will not extract/expand to put them on a root drive of a thumbdrive to update the firmware on the monitor. So we downloaded two different 3rd party unarchiving software(s) that would not open the firmware update files due to potential malware. We tried for a week to get PortKeys to send unzipped .bin files via file transfer service or emailing one at a time (there are only two files) and they incessantly emailed the same zipped .bin files that are available from the website that we downloaded in the first place. They are headquartered in Beijing, so any interaction takes a minimum of 24 hours for a reply as they have no one working on their chat, and even their AI chats go unreplied. PortKeys made little to no effort to remedy any of our issues. Thankfully, B&H stands behind the products they sell so we bought the Small HD 7" and are returning the PortKeys BM7IIDS monitor. It baffles us why companies put so much effort into manufacturing decent products (2200 nits was impressive) yet blow off support and customer service like PortKeys does. It's asinine.

Amazing Monitor

If You're Looking For An Alternative To The RED 7" Monitor, You Found The Right One! Screen Is Nice And Large, As Well As A Thin Body. I Recommend Getting A Cage So You Can Have Different Mounting Points. The Monitor Connects Via SDI And You Can Power It Via Dtap And The Dci Outlet Or A Dummy Battery (or Real Batteries For That Matter) And Its Touch Screen Controlled Via Wifi If Necessary! The Layout Is Better Than Before, And Has The Same Options As You're Used To, As Well As A Brighter Screen For Outdoor Use Without The Hood. Oh Yeah, Theres A Plastic Portable Hood Included At No Extra Cost!
